Don't forget your trunks

LONDON (Reuters) - A Sea Harrier jump jet has crashed in the Bristol Channe on a flight from a Royal Air Force maintenance base in South Wales, the Ministry of Defence says. "The pilot, who was the only person on board, ejected safely. He was picked up by an RAF helicopter and taken to hospital for checks," a spokesman said on Wednesday. He said the pilot walked off the helicopter when it landed at Barnstaple hospital in North Devon. The cause of the crash was unknown.

Glad the pilot is OK. ;)

Craig. Maybe I'm wrong but I understood that the Harrier is now being operated as part of the first Joint Strike Command group. This is a combined force manned by RAF & RN/FAA personnel. http://www.f4aviation.co.uk/Hangar/jf2000/jf2000.htm

Probably had been in for overhaul/repair as DARA (Defence Aviation Repair Agency) is at St Athan, and as they do all the RAF frontline FJs I makes sense they do the RN ones too...
