So good old Tony wants a nice aeroplane all to himself, of course coming from the MOD's budget...

(Apparently BA 777s all to himself aren't good enough)

problem is like they have stated they need a plane for times of crisis, BA-777's arnt avaliable at a moments,notice. i have read they are looking to convert a tanker aircraft at a large cost to. which i believe most suitable would be the L1011 as its the only tanker that i can think of thats possible. i doubt the MOD will pay for a new 777 although it would be cool.

I think the MOD is more worried that it'll never see one of its new tankers, be it a 767 or A330. Till then he'll have to do with VC-10 (lurvely aeroplane) i suppose, what with all the Tristars taking all the holiday makers to the Falklands...

Not wishing to be over-political here or start an argument. I think this is typical of the man & his oversized ego. No other British PM, including Winnie during WWII, has had a personal aircraft  RAF Transport Command should be able to do the job without having a special "Presidential" aircraft.  >:(

Surely, a good, clean, truthful, honest politician (if ever there was one) could find a way to f'naigle a 25 yr old, soon-to-be-out-of-service, Concord, for his personal use, ....rather than just be a "bush league" world leader ?

Its good enough to convert a tanker at huge cost for one person but its not good enough to fund an aircraft project that would revolutionize the industry (the tsr2 which was cancelled by LABOUR).

Well Crumbso, much as I deplore this latest example of unnecessary extravagance by our present government, the cost hardly compares.  ::)
I'm just a taxpayer & don't get involved in party politics. Just to keep the record straight, the TSR.2 project was due for cancellation under the previous Tory govenment.

In the infamous defence White Paper produced by Duncan Sandys in 1957, he suggested that the future of the RAF lay entirely with deploying rockets and missiles, and he cancelled a whole range of military aircraft projects.
