Enemy at the Gate is bloomin' good. Saw it the other night.
Does anyone remember Who Dares Wins with Lewis Collins? Naff film except for the bit at the end.
In the black and white genere I've always like The Password Is Courage and Ice Cold In Alex, both classics.

Lewis Collins is the bloke in "The Professionals" series, isn't he. Bodie, I recall his name was. I saw him in a film based on the SAS. This must be it.

P.S. What does "Naff" mean.

I don't know the names of the other two, but I've seen so many war films in 44 years that I couldn't possibly remember them all. Especially from the 50's & 60's, when there were literally hundreds of films made, mostly "How we won the War" by the Americans genre.............lol

I've been crook over the last week or so (which explains my curious absence from the forums). All Ive been able to do is lay in bed or on the lounge and watch TV. Thank God for cable and Fox is all I can say.

I've seen alot of Doco's on the History channel, that I wouldn't have normally caught. There was one called Spitfire Squadron. Alot of footage and interviews with pilots etc that I haven't seen (when you watch these things all the time you find alot of the stuff is repeated in different doco's over & over).
I'm quite an avid amatuer WWII historian and have learnt a few things I wasn't aware of. There was also a couple of hours on Stalingrad, which went into the sniper battles (the great female Russian sniper and the German bloke who was the head instructor in germany, called in to arrest the balance).

In the film The Battle of Britain, a Luftwaffe officer upsets Goering when he asks them what they need to win the BoB. This Offficer answers "A squadron of Spitfires!" I didn't know it was Adolf Galland.  ;D

Yes doug I agree. With a topic this size, (MY TOPIC - I'm sure it's some kind of record breaker.....lol) I don't bother to check if something's been brought up before, I just go for it. If a couple of people want to talk about something that's already been spoken about 2 months ago, who cares!  ;D

As for Hagar. As I said, I've been off too, so don't know what's going on there.
Does anyone know if Hagar is OK, On Hols or just taking a break? We must be concerned about our own!  ;D

did you really say that ?....thats a word that will pass most of todays youth and go into obscurity.......I love it when a word comes out of the woodwork !....nice one

Hey Brensec, you're quite right. Lewis Collins was in "The Professionals), he was also in 21 SAS (TA) and his brother was an officer in the Paras.
V.nice guy, lives not far from my mum, and I met him in a pub one night and got chatting.
You're right about Adolfs request for a Sqn. of Spits. I've caught some good stuff on Discovery recently, they have WWII documentaries every weekday afternoon, and I'm always home from school just in time!
Oh and naff is now English slang for not terribly good, better than c*** but not as good as mediocre.

I'm on the mend but still not as restored as I could be. I've found I'm only able to pop into the forums from time to time, trying to keep up with the threads I was involved in. But, alas, most of them have gotten away from me by now.

I didn't realise the word "crook" would trigger a search in a slang dictionary, I thought it was pretty commonly used in place of sick, unwell, malaised etc.
Anyway, I suppose we do have alot of little ones like that which others aren't familiar with.
I saw the dreaded C*** mentioned a few posts back. We have an expression here for that, which is perfectly acceptable to both sexes. It's "front bum".

Doug,...I wasn't trying to make lilght of the spelling that you used....I knew what you wanted to say and only was making reference to the fact that most kids these days might not have any idea of the meaning of that particular word.........pretty funny !
