Best War Film Part 2

It's a Pommy film made in the '80's, I think, called "something Street". Stars Harrison Ford and Christopher Plumber. Ford falls for Plumbers wife and the two men end up going on a secret mission together.
I liked the film. Does anyone recall the full name.

I don't know if anyone of you has ever seen a BBC production called Over Here.
Its about a Spitfire pilot, and a gunner from a B17. It has shown on BBC Prime a couple of times. Its the funniest and most poignant war movie ever I think, and I didn't like Memphis Belle.
On the going to the cinema front, Enemy at The Gates was great....

Haven't seen the BBC series you mentioned Ozzy, but here in Aust. we are usually about 12 to 18 months behind you blokes.  ;)
But your mention of BBC conjured up a memeory, "Dad's Army".  ;D  God I love that show. It is up there with Fawlty Towers and Yes MInister/Prime Minister as far as my laugh meter goes...........lol  ;D

Also, my commentary on the series "Band of Brothers" which just finished here.
The last episode was not much at all. No action, just all personality and character stuff.
It was billed as a War Series so over all, it was interesting but lacked alot of action for a supposed "war series" (only about 20 minutes each episode, if that).

Historical accuracy, I can't fault. They had anything, which required that kind of accuracy, pretty well researched
Acting was good, by all.  ;D  8)

One question, which may seem silly to some. Can anyone tell me the significance of the white "spade" they all wore on their helmets.  ???  ;)

I remember seeing "Over Here" when it was first shown a few years back. I totally agree with you, it was exellent and I really enjoyed it. Wish I'd taped it.

You know Hagar mate, I remember seeing an interview with Richard Todd, I think on History channel, where he talked about his roll in The Longest Day and how he was asked to play Major Howard who was his commanding officer in real life on D-Day.

I guess if we're talking about war hero film stars, we have to mention Audy Murphy, who not only won more Medals of Honour in one day than all the US forces put together, but then played himself in the film and won them all again just for the cameras!
