"Toko-Ri" (actually spelled Toko-ri) was a Korean War movie made in 1955 starring William Holden & Mickey Rooney.

It was loosely based on a true incident from a short novel of the same name by James A. Michener. The featured aircraft were USN F9F Panthers standing in for the F2H Banshees in the book. The flying sequences were particularly well done. IMHO

I saw a couple minutes of it at a friends and i wondered if it was any good

seen it, was OK but nothing great and the special effects were non existant (models on strings for the most part)

The Memphis Belle movie is OK, but it's not the best air war movie ever made. It's loosly based on the famous colour war time film made on the Belle's twenty fifth mission, but it manages to "Hollywood" the story a bit too much.
Several B-17 were flown to England for the film and one French based B-17 was lost during filming.

i've seen it a couple of times. Don't mind the movie at all. I know the subject matter is true but as to the realism of the story or characters........I don't know.

Interestingly, there's a tourist attraction in Brisbane (also used for Move making) "Warner Bros Movie World".
They have several sets and models etc. Among one of the most popular is the Memhis Belle "set". They have the actual models of the B17 Cockpit (inside) and the whole nose section (outside) plus a few different size models, right down to what looks like a 1/72 that were used for filming. the cockpit model (life size) has hydraulic arms connected to simulate the movement during flight and flak attack etc. Interesting first time round at least.
I saw it about 6 years ago. It may not still be there. Just thought I'd mention. Maybe some of the studio work on the fim was done there.  ;D

i'm surprised that your wife is atleast considering it. Most of the time when me and my grandfather watch a war movie my mom goes into the other room and watches a movie.

She didn't even want to watch 'BlackHawk Down', can't imagine why

I've seen it. Its just a pity to know that after filming only 3 of the 5 B17's went home. The french one crashed and another was scrapped cause the owner couldn't afford to get it to the states again.

It's quite good. The B17's are intermingled with models and they look quite real. Fairly good story line too.

I saw another oldie a couple of weeks ago, just remebered it. A Pommy one, made during the war. It's a true account of an RAAF crew who bail out over Holland. Kind of a Doco really. "One of our Aircraft is Missing". A couple of players are the actual blokes playing themselves.....interesting!

It goes through how they manage to get in contact with the Dutch underground and get channelled back to England.
