Aircraft systems II class!!!

Postby Jared » Fri Jan 20, 2006 5:50 pm

SO I had the first day of my aircraft systems class this morning....

It's an awesome class! In 16 weeks we are going to learn about the Embraer ERJ-145 that continental express airlines uses from head to tail.

Towards the end of the semester the professor hopes to get the class up to the airport and take us for a ride in the actual plane if at all possible, along with the possibility of going for a flight where each student gets a few minutes at the controls! ;)

It's gonna be an awesome class! :D

Now those sound like cool classes.  I would cut my left leg off to take a class like that. ;D  I'm stuck with Materials Science and Physics. :P

Sound like fun, what are you going to school for, if you don't mind me asking? ;)

Thanks for asking!

I'm in school for aviation management and we have to take a lot of the same classes as the Flight technology students who fly the planes. Eventually I'm going to learn how to fly, but that will be done through something other than the school as it is quite a financial burden to pay the school for flight fees and tuition too.

I don't know exactly what your materials science class is like, but I'm pretty sure that it's probably close to my materials and processes class that I'm taking this semester too... ;)

I've done the same thing basicly...but in my case it was the 737NG.
Our "professor" was a pilot for an LCC carrier  ;D

The ERJ-145 is an interesting aircraft, and I'm sure you're gonna enjoy it. It has  a bunch of nifty features as a VOR approach mode (VAPP) and a touch control button which is kind of the equivalent of the Boeing 737's CWS modes (ie it will hold a given bank/pitch attitude when control wheel is released to neutral)

I'm so jealous of you  :)

That's pretty sweet man.  At my school they offer two systems classes like that (systems III and IV) where you go through the Dash-8 Q-400, and the other goes through the 737NG also.  THe prof for that class flys for Alaska Airlines.

Let us know how it goes, that sounds AWESOME!
The day is always better when you're flying upside down.

Cool, thanks Jordan, I've been looking into aviation related careers I could go into once I get my Mechanical Engineering degree.  I was hoping to do something with flying, but I don't know how many flying jobs are available for people with eyes as bad as mine, even though most people with glasses can see better than people without. ;)

P.S.  My Materials Science class is pretty much chemistry for engineering, kind of cool, we get to learn all about different types of materials used in the construction of different things.  I was looking though our homework and one of the projects was determining the best materials to use for various parts of an F/A-18, so I'm pretty excited about that. :)
