Is anybody else not being able to connect to gamespy at all??

Postby Mtnbiker29er » Thu Dec 06, 2012 5:28 pm

This happened a couple days ago, as far as I remember the only real change to my system was a defnition update from windows defender.  :-/

Well, as it turns out, game spy shut down, so there is no more fsx multi player!  :(

Gamespy and FSX's contract has expired. Gamespy is no longer hosting for Microsoft FSX. However, popular 24/7 servers such as Eastern Hops and such are still up. You can still connect to those and friends servers through LAN then connecting directly with the IP address of the host. Also, things like Vatsim, FSHost, FSInn and such also still work.

Hello Multiplayer Chums!.. ;)...!

You will probably find that the majority of Flight Simmers use "FS Host" for all their Multiplayer flights, for FS 2002, FS 2004, (and FSX, using "FS Host Client") for the connection....>>>

http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/

Running "FS Host Spy" shows all the Servers, their IP addresses (to type in), and who is on line!

Full details in the Multiplayer Forum below... ;)...!

"Gamespy" for FSX Multiplayer was always a pain!

Paul...FS Host, FS 2004 + FS Navigator, and FSX Multiplayer... 8-)...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

I think it's becoming apparant, through all the other forums and info out there, that finding a server to fly in through the built in gamespy connection is not going to be an option any longer. News items are indicating that the company that purchased the gamespy brand some time ago has been losing money, and as such are hacking away the things they do not see as revenue generators. This includes the online server listings for FSX and apparently several other games.

Be it known however that when a person chooses to "host" an online game, their computer is the server. The Gamespy listing was nothing more than that...a listing. It allowed other players to see sessions available for joining and facilitated the connection. It was not a server filled with various multiplayer sessions. Microsoft nor Gamespy ever "hosted" the sessions.

The direct connect/LAN feature will still work if the server host has allowed the IP to be open for connecting that way. So if you know the IP and you know the session is there, you can probably still get in that way. Otherwise, players seeking a multiplayer experiance will need to do some homework and find out about other server listing clients like FShost or FSopen, or go through other servers like VATSIM or ICAO.

Do some research everyone, and to those who routinely operate servers, please be sure that your server is somehow accesible to those who are looking for it!

(PS..I think the end of gamespy is the dawn of a more mature and realistic multiplayer era!) :P

I must admit I have never used Gamespy for any of my Multiplayer Sessions.
In common with most others, I have always used FS Host for my FS 2002, FS 2004, and FSX on-line Multiplayer sessions....
..instant, reliable connections to an large number of different flight sim servers.

Paul...FS 2002, FS 2004, FSX... 8-)....!

http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/

I can remember, in the olden "dial-up internet" days of CFS 1/2, FS 2000, and FS 2002, one of the Sim V members would PM his computer IP address to other members, and Host the session, then we would all connect to it for a Multiplayer session... :D...
It worked fine until his computer crashed, or someone hadn't open his ports, etc, and we all got kicked off the session... :'(...!
Happy days!...So much fun!... ;D... ;D... ;D...!

Starting silly rumors doesn't do anyone any good. Do you believe the world is going to end on Dec. 21?  :D
