Runway Lights too Bright

Postby Formula_1 » Tue Nov 27, 2012 1:14 pm

I remember there was a fix for the runway lights that would dim them some. I searched but didn't see anything related.
Can somebody please tell me how to dim them.
I'm using FSX with the Acceleration Expansion.
Here is an example of what is going on with my runway lights;

Thank for any help :)

Hi,

I did a search around the tinternet and ended up right back here on simviation.

Have a look at
http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=Airport+Light+Environment&x=13&y=13

http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1 ... &x=13&y=13

It maybe what your looking for.

Thanks, but that didn't really make much of a difference. In fact I think it made it worse. No difference in brightness that I can tell, but put a glare like effect on them. Kinda like a sunbrust effect.

I could swear I once had them near perfect at one time. That was a long time ago. I reinstalled the game months ago, but haven't played it much since then. I do not remember what 'fixed' it with my first install, but know for a fact it was much more realistic looking whatever it was I did back then.

Does anyone know how to edit the Halo.bmp to reduce the glare and lower the brightness. I have Photoshop, but don't really know what I would need to do the file to get the results I'm after :-/

Maybe this is what you recall. Scales the size of the llghts. Don't know if it will have any effect on the bloom you're seeing.

RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=0.5 //Runway Lights
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=0.5 // VASI Lights
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=0.5 // Approach Bars
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=0.5 // Strobes

Add the above lines to the [Display] section of the FSX.cfg file. The default value is 1.0.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Perfect, that did it.
Here is what I get with the values at 0.2

A bit too low, but now I know how to adjust them. 5 was still pretty bright, maybe 0.35 or something. I will play around with it until I find what I like best.
Thank you ever so much. You have made my day,,, make that NIGHT 8-)
