System requirements for FSX

Postby Beavatron » Wed Jun 27, 2012 9:36 pm

Can anybody tell me how well FSX would operate on my desktop?

Windows XP SP3
two 40 GB hard drives
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.66 Ghz
768 MB of DDR SD Ram
Mainboard: ECS K7S5A
Radeon 9200 series video card, 128 MB I think.

Yeah it's old but it's still kicking. It freezes up whenever I enable any type of network card so I just use it for FS2004 & Photoshop due to it's large monitor.

No time to upgrade, I'm 7 years behind on computer technology & don't want to buy anything store-bought.

It shouldn't do all that bad, my old laptop could run it pretty well with lower specs.

When you do build one, go for an nVidia GPU.

To be honest. (I think you want us to be.)
You'll most likely very fast find out, that you're missing a whole lot in the sim, strange texture behaviours, locking screens, bad flying and an irritating mind!
The sim is depending on a lot of rams and a strong gpx.
Good luck tho. ;)

This computer is too old. Keep enjoying FS2004 for the moment.
The FSX performance on such an old hardware will be simply catastrophic, and you won't enjoy anything at all from it. Keep FSX for your next computer ;)

Your CPU is a disaster, stay away from FSX.
I have the nivada 9200 intergrated and mine runs at around 20 FPS,withouth ENB bloom of course,10-17 with ENB,but I have a triple-core so its able to run decentel, withouth my triple-core or tweaking....I'd probably not be able to start FSX.... ;D

So my desktop is too ancient, LOL. I kinda figured that. Thanks for the confirmation. I never looked at the system requirements on the box at the store. But I know that the system requirements given on the boxes for PC games are always the bare-bones minimum.

I used to run FS2004 on a computer with something like 500 mhz Pentium 1 or something, 256 MB of ram, 16 MB video card & it seemed to work ok with the graphics set all the way down to "Atari mode".

My laptop will certainly run FSX but ... it's a laptop. Even though it's a widescreen laptop, it's nothing like the 24" flat screen monitor I've got hooked up to the desktop.

Just thinking, couldn't you hook up the 24" to your laptop?

The main problem with the laptop is... the heat !
If I need a giant cooler in my destop computer to keep my CPU and video card at acceptable temperatures, how could a simple laptop with minifans and plastic everywhere survive ?
