FSX Start up screen Hangs ???

Yes yes and YES.
I never install anything, unless i know where it comes from, unless i've seen what it contains and certently knows what changes that install will make on what i got.
I dont like the auto too, cause when clicking, you're out of control.

Well I usually open up every file rather BMP or DDS  and inspect it 1st using the DXT Converter, but this 1 annoying file got past me,, somehow,, sneaky SOB ! I spent a fair amount of time too, looking for the exact culprit of the problem,, what thru me off was the file name - everything seemed alright at 1st glance how could it be Well, not knowing how the file was supposed to look in Default in the 1st place can be a real problem, as why I posted those 4 screen shots in the post, so I can get others to clearly see the problem. Hopefully - Hopefully this will help others who may eventually encounter this problem down the road - I hope others refer to this thread as an example - to guide others as to the problem. I gotta tell ya, it took some doings to fix this, because , be clear here - the FSX Disk Repair mode - "DID NOT" Fix this problem, it seen the file name was in perfect order and sailed on past it checking other files so no Fix,, it wasn't till I cross referenced the files "VISUALLY" while on 1 computer , while my other computer was sitting next to me ,, and I went file by file and PRESTO' it jumped out at me and was easy to spot , and I fixed it,,, the file name was right, the same as the Default FSX File,,, but definetly a changed Texture ,, hard to spot hard to figure out. I've heard before of this happening in the past to other Flight Simmers and about 75 answers as to how to fix the problem - well theres really only about 2 answers - either do what I did , or perform a complete un-install, and start over.  anyway, hopefully this thread will be archived for futher users should they have this problem in the future . Special Thanks to all those involved in the remedy to this situtation and all the advice !

I agree, shouldn't be necessary, but believe it or not I've caught a few things that were wrong or shouldn't be in there in the 1st place,,, example would be screen shot photos posted in the sound folder of the aircraft but had a file name that I was not familiar with,, wasn't sure till I looked tho. and I've actually caught some Aircraft Texture files that were actually just plain ol' bitmap files, that someone thought you just turned into DDS files at the push of a button, without flipping or mirrioring them, the way a proper DDS file should be for FSX, and the aircraft showed up in FSX will all kinds of crazy looking Textures out of whack and looking strange, wish I'd saved a screen shot of that one ! , thats why I started checking visually every texture file, there for a while I was downloading aircraft that claimed to be FSX and were like nothing at all FSX compatible, files were wrong not saved properly in the right DXT Format etc. etc.  some had missing files in multiple liverys that I was able to copy and paste into the other paint liverys to make it right, mostly VC files that were in 1 texture file but had been forgotton in the rest of the texture folders, altho some I learned feed off 1 main Texture folder so not all may need all those files,, depends how it was created and designed.  I'm fairly good now now at installing aircraft & scenery, took me a while to get the hang of it and what to look for, and correct any irregulateries I see,, still a few get by me tho, like that Chrome Texture file, 1 that sent my head spinning , whats left of it anyway

I suspect these textures were in extended BMP format. That indicates that the aircraft was originally created for FS9. Nothing wrong with that as most FS9 aircraft will display very well in FSX without any modification. The problem, if there is one, will usually be with incompatible gauges.

I assume that was caused by overwriting default files which comes back to my earlier advice.

Lets see, I think about it now,, it was in BITMAP form,, but wasn't the entire file needed only about a 1/4 of the file was actually uploaded in to whatever / whereever it came from. ( refer /see screen shots ). Also, not trying to be funy or a smart ass,, but lets say a flight simmer downloads an aircraft or scenery,,, How are we to know whats default and whats not , theres so many files in these sims especially Texture wize and Gauge wize , and I couldn't possibly remember or know what every single file looked like as default or original.  like that Chrome Texture that got past me, looked alright to me , even had the exact same file name as the original, little did I know tho it was only a 1/4 of the file needed . I am to assume from what your trying to explain / educate me that when the window pops up, and asks if you want to over write a particular file - the answer should always be NO ??  Will that always be the case I usually click no, unless I know for sure, but sometimes those windows are so fast or may not pop up at all,, tho they should I'd think.  Think what your saying is just say NO to any & All over writes of files - and that'll eliminate some of the problems.  Thanks for your input , Advice, Education, Wisdom and knowledge too !! I got ya,,, understand now,,, also 99% of the time whenever I install from 1 of those auto-installers, I direct it to somplace else in the computer away from my FSX sim, for further inspection of all the files before "Injecting" it into my FSX Sim, which I do manually 99% of the time. as much as possible anyway. I've been really lucky so far with as many aircraft & scenery downloads I've put into my sim the last 8 months, I've had no major problems till a few weeks ago, and I just now found time to fix it yesterday,, have to admit that one really threw me had me stumped, frustrating but also very very Educational, and I think I enjoyed the educational part and Investigating & learning , more than anything else, instead of just throwing my hands up and performing a total un-install and all that hassle, this actually was much more enlighting, tho frustrating , but I - We / all the advice from other flight sim pilots got the job done and got er' Fixed by Golly !!! were up to snuff now again !! Thanks to all involved and for the help and education & information, we pulled it off!!
