AS341 Gazelle by C. Pioffet : how to get ride of too much smoke !

Hi !

I downloaded Cyril Pioffet's great AS341 Gazelle helicopter.

But, it emits so much black and white smoke that you think

the helo is on fire.

OPEN up the Aircrafts CFG File,,,, found at the bottom of all your Aircrafts folders for that particular Aircraft,,, once you open the AIRCRAFTS CFG File,,, scroll down on the LEFT side slowly,,, and look for the words [Smoke System]  - then Below that are some numbers and other B.S.,,, just eliminate or Delete anything right below that,,, [Smoke System] , only just below the words smoke system tho,,,,, then Click on SAVE ,, in the upper left hand corner of the file,,, SAVE,,,, NOT save as!!!!! you should be fine ,, if not let us know !!

Hi !

There is no smoke system section at all in the original aircraft.cfg.

So I added one using [smoke system], [smokesystem] or [smoke_system ] with nothing under it.

The smoke is still there.

By the way, the Tolga Piskin's Gazelle as a smoke section with various values but unfortunatly he forgot to include the .fx files in his package.

This is the model I'll be creating views for very soon.

Still it would be great to solve this mystery !

sounds like its tied to the aircrafts MDL file some how,,,, and I have NO clue where to go from there ,, sorry,,,

I just downloaded the Gazelle and I can't stop the smoke either!
I e-mailed Pioffet but it bounced, so i'm going to uninstall it.
There are plenty more Gazelles around for download..

Now ya'll got me curious, so now I'm gopin to try it see if I can dig thru where the problem lies,,, i'll be back,,,, as Arnie says,,I'll be Bock ,,,,,

Downloaded it, Injected it into "FSX Gold Acceleration",,,, I have Windows 7.  After downloading it, and firing up the Heli', I hit the "I" smoke key,,,, nothing, NO Smoke,, no hint of any smoke - nothing,,, so then I gave it Full Throttle and took it up, still NO Smoke at all,,, don't know,,, must be the way your windows system is reading a file or a graphics issue or something. I did not change any files ,, just left everything as it came in the download,,, tho - - - I did delete those extra panel file and some other file that came with the copter, and left everything else ( See Screen Shot). Sorry can't help ya,,, want some good Heli's try "Rotorcraft Simulations.Com" they have some nice Heli's too !!! Freeware ~ !!!! ( http://www.eaglerotorcraftsimulations.com/ )

Hey Jetranger, why hasn't my Gazelle folder (below) got a 'texture.IHS' in it like yours? -

OK ~ I admit, I only searched once for this Heli', and assumed this is the one you downloaded ?? evidently, you've downloaded one with a lot more Textures, so the one I have will be different than yours .  Also, since their 2 different downloads of the same Heli' by evidently the same Designer, you may be able to swap MDL  and Model files with your with results ?  I dunno' you'll have to experiment and test & see.  Which also is reason to believe WHY my Heli' download Aircrafts Texture folder is named different than yours that resides in your Sim . All I know ( which isn't much  ) , is that I had NO Smoke at all from this particular Heli.  Below is a Screen Shot of the very Exact Heli that I Injected into my FSX Sim. Hope it helps ya I dunno' ? This (below) is the one I was talking about, (it smokes like the furnaces of hell). The moral for all of us is therefore to in future make sure we're all singing from the same song sheet!
And hey Macareno, another moral is to never waste too much time trying to get dead duck downloads to work; just delete them and download another one to try until you find one that works..

The moral for all of us is therefore to in future make sure we're all singing from the same song sheet!

This is the reason I always ask anyone seeking help with a download to provide a link to the problem file, preferably to the page it's posted on so I can check it out.

After a process of elimination I've found the solution is simple enough.
Open Aircraft.cfg of the Gazelle in Notepad.
Scroll down to the [GeneralEngineData] section & change the engine type to 3 (Helo-Turbine) like this.

Hi,
I found the cfg. file and the engine location but notepad will not let me save the change to 3 when I exit. Says access denied.
I am using windows 7 and FSX.
