I know everybody moans about it, but I directed my original FSX installation to; C/ "Program Files", the same as I do with all my installations.

With full Administrator Rights on my Win 7, 32-bit, Home Edition, PC, I have never experienced any problems whatsoever, including installing any subsequent add-ons to FSX... :)...!

It's not a major problem if it doesn't work now, since I (hopefully enough) will be upgrading my rig in a short while.
But it baffles me.
I'm not quite sure about the suggestion about Java, where does it come into play while installing FSX, and namely while registering fonts with the OS? Anyway I am running the bleeding edge stable version for x86.
And the user I am installing FSX as is a member of the local Administrators group.
Some dude on the Internet suggested to kill the task right after the error message, in order to prevent the rollback actions, and see if FSX starts because the font registration is supposedly the last action the installer performs. If everything else fails, I could end up trying this Hail Mary countermeasure.

I were having a look at this

http://java.com/en/download/help/error_1722.xml

But you are right, its not a java problem.

If you googled the error code, that would explain it. The 1722 error code is totally generic and as such it cannot be tracked down to a specific cause unless paired with the name of the software, in this case FSX. And the only official document about 1722 in FSX is the one which suggests to use resetslds.exe, which I tried to no avail.
That's it then, if SimV can't solve it, it can't be solved  :(

Hi All,

A couple of years ago now this same problem reared its head and somebody else said the instructions from MS didnt work.

I looked at the guide and it was incorrect, there was a mistake. I wrote a batch file and posted it here that corrected for the mistake on the MS guide.

If you search through the forum for this same error you should find the details which worked.

Update: could not find my old post, p[resume old posts have been archived.
I'll have a look at the MS guide to see if the problem is still there.
If you had known DOS in the old days of PC's the mistake was easy to see, I seem to remember it was a 'change directory mistake'
regards

Steve.

I'd been diligent and searched these forums before posting, using the error code ("1722") as a keyword and looking in the whole FSX section, any user, any date. Found nothing.
Now I've done another search, from user "EVVFCX", on all forums, any date, using "batch" as a keyword. Nothing relevant.
Perhaps after a few years posts are deleted. In any case, could you be so kind and provide me with another way to grab the batch file?
Thanks!  :)

crikey you must have been watching.
here is the bat file instructions and I hope I can explain to you how to create the batch file.

**********
cd C:\
pause
cd MicrosoftKB928080.
pause
dir
pause
resetsldl -All
pause
**********

Compare the above with the MS guide, it should be similar.
On your pc, Open a new .txt file and copy and paste the lines above that are between the lines of ****.
save to your desktop with any name you want, you can save it has resetdll.txt if you want.

left mouse click once on the new txt file and press F2 or right click and select Rename.
Replace the .txt with .bat
you would now have resetdll.bat and the icon for it will have changed. (gear/cog)

Again check if the instructions above look like the MS instructions and that you have done everything else the MS guide tells you to do.
right click on the .bat file and run as administrator.
When this was done before, it worked first time once the .bat file had been run.

Meanwhile I'll try and see the MS guide or can you post the link to it here.

After the dir line runs, your screen should show the .exe file then pause,

PS. I will be back online in a few hours.
but meanwhile
resetsldl -all is correct.
When the dir line runs then pauses, you should see 2 files
, one is the .exe file, the other is the eula.txt.

Date I did the batch file was 24th Dec 2010.

Uhm...
I have already gone that route.
I'd found this KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928080), downloaded the tool, extracted it, opened a command prompt and run the resetsldl tool with the "-All" switch.
The command succeeded, I got a message saying that the license informations had been purged; I ran the FSX installer again and I got the same error.
I believe the error is due to some other cause than the license informations, expecially since I had never installed FSX before so there is no need to purge the activation data.
Something is preventing the in-game fonts to register in the system, but who knows what.

when the other person had the problem, it was also on first installation.
Not sure if they checked if anything had been installed and did an un-install but at the time for their problem which MS was aware of, it cured it.

Was the fsx brand new and had never been installed by anybody else?

@Pete. is the link to the old server still active and can I have it to check re the above problem.

The copy of FSX is not new, but I am relatively sure it's not installed anywhere else right now.
Now I'll have a look at that old thread, thanks.
EDIT: read; nothing new there, unfortunately that's the fix I've already tried. Too bad, I'll wait for the rig upgrade (I'll also be installing Windows 7) and try again.
