lockheed vega 5b (amelia earhart)

Postby Aldon » Mon Mar 26, 2012 5:12 am

I have downloaded from Simviation the Lockheed file: Vega 8.zip to my fsx.    This download was created from the earlier fs9 model to work in fsx only.   My download operates in flight simulator OK but with two reservations namely 1.
The indicator for the early type ADF does not indicate even when flying towards a station within the + or - ten degrees limit .   If I place the mouse index on the instrument itself a tag will appear with a bearing to that particular station.
            2.
The parking brake does indicate that it is applied when activating Control + Period.   Even after going to the A/C's Config. file and changing Parking brake = 0 to Parking brake = 1.   My simulator operates on windows 7.
Can anyone offer me some help to resolve these problems please.   Thanking anyone in anticipation for their help.

I installed it to check it out.....

1-My guess is the 'Lockheed_Vega!ADF' xml gauge contains code that is no longer supported in FSX. (or it was errant code that doesn't work in FS9 either. I no longer have FS9 installed to check it out.)

I substituted other adf/rmi gauges and they worked fine.

2-setting 'parking_brake=1'; they work, just not very well as they will give under even light throttle advance. The effectiveness of both toe brakes and parking brake are tied to the

Dear dave3cu,

Thanks for your assistance with my Vega problems in FSX.

(1)  The brakes are now sorted out and operate just like they should.   I find the toe_brakes_scale = 0.5 quite realistic.   Any setting higher than that tended to make for rapid somersaults.   0.8 may be suicidal even!!

(2)  The adf problem is still unresolved, hence the time it has taken for me to report back.   When I set my Short Empire S23 up on a particular airport with a tuned in adf. its gauge operates fine just as anticipated.   When it comes to the Vega, I have tried your suggestions but alas to no avail.

Having tried to do those things from several approaches without success, I have reached the conclusion that my techniques are possibly incorrect, I am missing the point or my computer is not user friendly.   For example, the "copy and paste" appears to be a major block.   If you could please expand on your explanation a bit more, it may highlight where I am going wrong.

Thanking you again.

Aldon,

A note on the Vega. As the Vega has no 'Avionics Master Switch', if you are starting it 'cold and dark' you have to bring up the handheld radio (Shift+2) and turn it on for the ADF radio and gauge to work.

To get the Short's ADF gauge into the Vega.....

From the Short S23's 'panel' folder, copy the 'Short_Empire.cab' file and paste it into either; the FSX 'Gauges' folder, or; into the Vega's 'panel' and 'panel.1' folders.

Open the 'panel.cfg' file in the Vega's 'panel' folder. Find the following 2 lines and edit as follows:

In the..
[Window00] section-

find the line-

gauge07=Lockheed_Vega!adf,

Dear Dave3cu,

My Vega 5B is now operational thanks to your explicit and generous information you so readily imparted.   Additional thanks for the time and effort expended to get my Vega up and functional.   By myself, I could not have done it.

Tonight I flew into Toulouse, France, around midnight using an NDB approach and a safe landing ensued.

I really appreciate your generosity.

Glad I could help, Aldon.

As a fan of vintage radials and having flown it in FS2004, the Vega is now has a permanent place in my FSX hanger.   :)

And a belated Welcome to Simviation..

Dave
