All airports "raised" above ground level after installing addon terrain mesh.

Postby liamp51 » Wed Feb 29, 2012 10:15 pm

Hi all,

I have just downloaded and installed all the scenery mesh addons for North America available here at Simviation. There is only one problem. All the airports are raised above ground level(some almost form cliffs in the surrounding scenery) which is most annoying and unrealistic. Is there a fix for this or do I just have to put up with it?

Thanks!

PS: Got the POsky 737-700 working with the new default 737-800 cockpit!  ;D

The scenery mesh effects the terain elevation, but not the airport elevationm so if there is any significant difference in airport elevation, you get a mesa or a trench. I think you can fix it using an airport editor.

Over the years in FS 2004 we have experienced the same effect on a few airfields; airfields either raised on a hill above ground level, or sunk in a hole in the ground in particular areas.
Mainly due to conflicts in various Mesh add-ons that we have installed in the Sim.
It is a bit annoying, but generally we have had to put up with it, for the sake on the improvements in the overall world scenery... :)...!
(It is most observable when flying together in Multiplayer, and the Pilots report their personal experiences in their individual scenery during the flight in the same location).

Paul... :)...!

Pretty much the price one must pay under FS for the use of more detailed mesh since ever.

Serious conflicts with airports (like, an airport so deeply sunken under a ravine, it is impossible to use unless by helicopters and VTOL planes) can happen... personally I still have a pair of them in South America... and must be dealt one at time re-making the correlated scenery, if needed.
There is no such a thing as overkill. Only unworthy targets.

Pilots  software AFM disc.
Airfield Flattening Mesh.
Just put in the icaq of the airfield you want to sort and it does it all for you.
