ICON A5

Postby brett » Sun Feb 05, 2012 12:15 pm

Hi,
Just downloaded the latest version of this aircraft and like it just fine. Kudos to the author.

I do have a problem with landing on water though, it sounds like I am landing on a runway with gear up. I tried aliasing the sound to another amphibian aircraft instead of the Mooney and also tried changing the water effect and adding a wake effect to the CFG file but none of this helped. I think I am looking in the wrong area but am not sure how this sound is generated and or linked to the [Effects] section. Is this something I can fix?

Appreciate any help with this.
Take Care,
Brett

Brett, if you're referring to the IconA5_1_0.zip download.....

The problem is in the aircraft.cfg [contact_points]. The 8 float lines (point.x=4,,,,lines) have their sounds mapped to 'scrapes'.

In the //Floats lines, under column 13 the 4's, 6's and 7's (which are all scrape sounds) should be changed either to 0's or, as most floats are, to 2's for left side floats and 3's for right side floats.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Thanks for the reply Dave, always fun learning new things. Sorry for not posting the file link, that is indeed the one. I did look up this section(aircraft configuration file,contact points and effects) in the SDK to have a look see also. I have changed the Float section all to 0's in the 13th column because I am not sure which points are the left and right floats. Columns 14 and 15 are not included in this file and are not needed, if I read the SDK correctly. The ICON has no wing floats, just the main fuselage sits in the water. The scraping sounds have stopped but now I get no sounds upon landing. From what you have told me and what I read, the water effect is the one that pertains to landing, taxing and takeoff's. Not sure what I have done wrong. I did change around the Effect section, trying different effects to no avail. Below is the two sections mentioned above as they stand now in my CFG file. Any additional input would be appreciated, thanks,
Brett

Brett,

The [Effects] section is not the problem. 'Effects' define the visual effects......

The Mooney sound.cfg file needs a few lines added. For safety, rather than editing the Mooney sound.cfg file I suggest you remove the Icon_A5's Sound folder and replace it with a copy of the Mooney's Sound folder. Then edit the (new) Icon_A5\Sound\sound.cfg.

Scroll down 'till you find these sections....

link=GROUND_ROLL5

[GROUND_ROLL5]
filename=cnroll5
flags=1024
link=GROUND_ROLL6

Thank you Dave , once again for a knowledgeable answer. I got it now, great. Used the Beaver sound file and I understand the relationship between the waterloop file and or linking it in the sound.cfg. Also thanks for the info on the contact points, always fun to explore the many sections of the aircraft.cfg.

Although I got it working now, I think I will explore different engine sounds for this slick little sport plane and link the ground roll sound to it. :)

Thanks for taking the time out to help me with this,
Brett
