aircraft lights

Postby T-Man » Sat Nov 05, 2011 9:16 am

I have an issue now with the nav lights, strobes, beacons and some panel lights not working on my aircraft as well as AI aircraft after installing some add ons.  Any recommendations?

Did your addons include new lights that had you over-write the original light effects when you placed them in the effects folder?

I don't recall having to put anything into the effects folder but I may have in a rush.

Which addon(s) caused the problem?

I have no idea what VIDP is.

I guess the first thing to do is open the aircraft.cfg files and look at the [lights] section and note the "fx_lightXX" entries and then check to see if those effects are present in your FSX\effects folder.

I installed Nicks Light-Fix v2 FSX and checked out a couple of my planes and the lights were now working on them.

In regards to Nick's LightFix, don't install the landing light, it was made for FS9 thus is incompatible with FSX.

copy the lights by Nick.  I also have the issue now of my vc lights not working and landing lights now working on the default aircraft.  Also, black smoke and contrails.  Any idea where I can get the fx files for those to replace/reinstall what I have?  I'm currently in Afghanistan and dont have my FSX disks with me.

Black smoke and contrails may likely be due to missing effect texture bmps that the effect file is looking for.  You can open the effect file with notepad, and look through the [particleattributes] entries and note the "texture=XXX.bmp" and then check your effects Texture folder for those .bmps. A lot of effects use fx_1 or fx_2.  Each one of those .bmps have several elements that ae used to build the effect.
