Restore to Factory Specs

Postby Capt.Propwash » Wed Oct 12, 2011 4:33 pm

Well guys and gals.  it seems that FSX has F@#$%^& up my system... yet again.  I started it the other day and the ground was covered in Airplane Parts textures... and the craft had trees magically covering them.  I would not have cared about the craft (was really cool camo lol .. but the ground looked like $#!T!!!!)

Tried to uninstall FSX because i could not fix the texture problems... to which now I can not REPAIR, REMOVE, ..... OR EVEN FIND IT ON MY SYSTEM!!!!!!! NOTHING pertaining to FSX (root folder) is on any drive.   Regeit does not contain FLIGHT SIMULATOR > 10.    ... My Documents does not have a Flight Simulator X Files folder.    FSX is NOT on my computer but.......

FSX DELUXE > Disk 1 > Setup.exe (run)

Repair: "This feature is only useable if the program is installed on your computer"

Remove: Setup can not find some InstallHelper.dll file.....

so. my only and last chance to try to fix this problem....... Restore the computer back to Factory Specs.  so that basically means that I start over from scratch and reinstall EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TOTAL WINDOWS REINSTALL pretty much.

Oh, and this come after I just sat on the phone with MARCOCRAP, (i mean Micro$$$oft) for and hour and the tech ran every ADD AND REMOVE PROGRAM .. program they know of. its not here, and wont install, repair, or remove.     yup, its screwed

I guess its a good thing my FS9 still works, and that I have it, as well as FS Registry Repair on my external HDD just for times like this.

I'm not much of an expert on this but I'm sure you did a system restore and ran through your listed recent updates from Microsoft, Adobe, your Antivirus program and etc. Fsx wouldn't delete itself, so I think, I would try running some of the free registry or malware programs like Glary or Microsoft One Care. Something aside from what you usually use, for that 2nd opinion from software.

If you have a problem with incorrect display of the textures/autogen, the first thing to try is to generate a new FSX.cfg by deleting it, not reinstall the full sim :/

If you uninstall it anyway, and then the setup refuses to reinstall because it thinks FSX is still there, there are some points to check:
- have you deleted the folder that used to contain the FSX.cfg ?
- have you deleted the shaders folder which has a "similar" path to the folder above ? (c:\users\all users\microsoft\fsx)
- what kind of error number is mentionned in the error message ? (like, 1607 or something like that)

Tried the FS Registry Repair. No go.
Moved FSX.CFG to desktop and restarted flight sim... problem still there.

called microsoft to find where the textures were (thought i should have came here before going to those IDIOTS over seas)  hell, they couldnt even find my FSX Folder on my computer using START > SEARCH > FLIGHT SIMULATOR X

tried to uninstall using disk 1 (Remove) Could not find "InstallHelper.xml"

Tried Repair "This option only works on programs that are installed in your system" ---  :o :o :o WTF!???  Went looking in the E:\Microsoft Games\Flight Simu ... WTF!? WHERE DID IT GO?????????

Checked REGEDIT.  HKEY_CURRENT USER_SOFTWARE_MICROSOFT_MICROSOFT GAMES_FLIGHT SIMULATOR_ Where The F@#$%^& is 10?? I see 9, where is 10!!!?????

Check MYDOCUMENTS.. No Flight Simulator X files Folder.

great..... it deleted it self.

Looked in the Antivirus Quarentine area. nope not there.  went back to FSX.CFG location...... FSX folder not there!!?? :o

Did a System Restore to an Earlier time about a week agao.... now I can repair it again.......  :o :o :o  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I really hate to say it... but even though I LOVE ORBX and all they have done.. I am about 2 days from going back to the dark side and going back to FS9!!!! At least it is DAMN Stable and never gave me these F@#$%^&*()_(*&^%$#$%^&*()_)(*&^%$#$%^&* Problems!!!!!!!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Oddly enough, my girls sound functions on her PC had completely gone missing today. Nowhere to be found, no default or realtec, Altec, just no sound software any where to be found. I resorted to System restore which fixed it, but I know I haven't found the cause of the problem. I'm leaning towards malware but not able to find any. Or a bad update from somewhere.

i would lean toward bad update.

but I am sure that you tried running a virus scan. and it turned up nothing.... try getting (if you dont already have it and ran it)> Spy bot search and destroy.   it finds all kinds of things.

also, check your START > RUN > DXDIAG to see if there are any problems.  I bet the software is still there, just the driver got corrupted by Clu from Tron.

Well I'm in the same boat with you Propwash, a add on uninstall  gezzmo deleted my entire FXS main folder!!!! This is my 3rd time starting over with FSX and it's slowly becoming not worth the money or all the damn hassle!! :-?
