New to Flight Simulator and need Help!

Postby Miss Autobot » Mon Sep 12, 2011 5:18 am

Hi There Folks

I used to play with X-Plane 9 on the ipad and found it easy to take-off but I soon found myself aborting in flight as I did not know the rest. I was just curious as a newbie to just fly a plane.

Anyway, I don't have an ipad anymore and bought myself MS Flight Simulator X for Windows 7. I will be starting on the beginner tutorials.

But is there any good tutorial out there for me to peruse. I am using a pc keyboard and mouse. Will my experience be easier if I use a joystick controller?

:)

A joystick that has a built in throttle would be a brilliant first step.

For example, the Saitek Cyborg X (sometimes called F.L.Y) has dual throttle controls, which would make it perfect for multi-engined aircraft, or the two throttle controls link together for single engines. As far as I know, it runs for about

Ya definatly need some sort of controller.. I really need to get a joystick, and im using xbox 360 controller.

360 controller isnt too bad the way its set up with the game but a joystick that has a throttle or 2 is by far the best thing to use with the game.

or even better yet a joystick with throttle, mixture, and prop controls seperatly, and rudder pedals, but thats a lot more then just a joystick.
I am somwhere I don't know where I am!!!

get a joystick and throttle combo, then go through "LEARNING CENTER" before you even start to think about downloading planes.  go through the first 9 at least twice.  This will give you the basics of flight, and how and what to do.  You can skip 10 & 11 unless you want to fly helos, but I would save those for later.  Jump to 12 and then go from there.

DEFINITELY get a joy stick- even a cheap Microsoft one if you don't want to spring for the more expensive ones.

You'll go NUTS tring to fly & adjust flight with keyboard commands.
Good Luck- let us know if you need help (which you will).
