G940 in FSX

I got a Logitech G940 and I think I will like it but I'm having some pretty frustrating problems trying to get the thing to work in FSX. I can't get some of the axis' and most of the buttons to work in flight. Starting from the profiler, with the latest and greatest software and firmware, did absolutely no good. So I tried to set the thing up in FSX. Here's what I'm seeing. All the basic pitch/roll/rudder/throttle/mixture/propeller controls work fine in FSX. The buttons are the issue. If I go into game controllers settings in Win 7, or in the profiler, all the axis and buttons are there and work as advertised. Once I get into FSX, most of the buttons don't work at all. So I try to set up the controls while in the game and what I have found is that all the buttons that don't work, show up in the game as keyboard entries, i.e. I try to assign button 4 on the joystick to a function and instead of showing as button 4, it shows as a keyboard L or S or /. I was running the G940 through a USB hub along with several other devices including a keyboard. So I plugged it directly into a USB port but that didn't change anything. Most of the joystick/throttle buttons showed up as a keyboard entry and didn't work in flight.
So, I've updated everything and tried everything I can think of. What could be making my controller buttons show up as keyboard entries in FSX?

Have you reassigned the keyboard buttons to joystick buttons in FSX?  In the FSX keyboard assignment option, click on the function you wish to change, let's say gear which is keyboard letter G, then while it is highlighted, push the button on your stick that you wish to use for that function.  It should replace G with button 4 or whatever button you pushed. 

My apologies if you already tried this, it's the only thing I can think of...

Actually, it will do both. You can program the controller by clicking on the Buttons / Keys tab in Settings - Controls

and then click on the Even to highlight it, and then the Change Assignment button. Then press the button on the controller

you want to use and then OK. It will then show both the G for Keyboard and your button on the Joystick and you can use either one.

I have done all this. Therein lies the problem. When I try to change a function on the joystick (or throttle), I select the function and then push a joystick button (or throttle, depending on which part of the G940 I'm trying to set up). One or two of the buttons come up as a button. The rest of them come up as keyboard keys. In fact, to make this even more weird and frustrating, some of the axis (like the trim wheels) will do keyboard functions as well. All of this happens in FSX. I will try another sim tonight and see if I have the same problem. If you go to the calibration page in FSX, you can see the same thing happening. Most of the buttons come up as keyboard commands and some of the axis do also. There is something weird with this controller and FSX.
