Resort Delivery Mission in FSX Problem

Postby Sir Puma » Wed Jul 27, 2011 3:01 pm

Ok, so I'm having fun doing the missions in FSX. But I've run into a bit of a problem. On the Apple Delivery mission when I get to the point where I'm supposed to climb out from the second drop point and up over the mountains to pick up the other plane, I crash. I don't mean the game crashes, the airplane crashes. For some reason the aircraft looses power, manifold pressure, fuel flow, air speed and crashes. Always. Nothing I do keeps the aircraft above 6000 feet. The mission is a Beech Baron and should be able to just jump right over some low mountains.

Currently my game settings is auto mixture off, so I should be able to adjust mixture. But no adjusting of mixture helps. Anyone else run into this problem? :-/

Check the anti icing switches.

Did that. The "co-pilot" tells you to turn them on if you haven't already. It doesn't matter if I turn them on before or when he says to, I still crash. It's like auto-mixture is on as far as being able to adjust it, but it's not auto adjusting. I'm going to try changing my settings to auto-mixture on and see if it will work.

It has been a long time since I flew this so I may be incorrect in my advice but my two cents is make sure carb heat is on and fly down the valley, I think they say something about this in the mission, until you gradually gain enough alt. to get over the mountains.

what is your airspeed when you try to 'attack' the mountains.  I have found in "free flight" that when I am flying the Baron 58 .. 500 ft off the canyon floor up in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada.. when i come to some mountains, I have to kick in a notch or 2 of flaps just to crest some hills.   I dont know if you can do this in the mission, but it might be worth a try.

Ok, this is weird. On the 2D panel there's only 3 deice switches, Pitot, Prop and Boot. On the 3D panel there's 7. Two Pitot, Fuel Deice, Stall Warning Deice, Prop, Windshield and Surface. When you turn on all 3 of the 2D panel switches all but the Windshield switches on the 3D panel are on.

When I hit 5500 feet the manifold pressure starts dropping. By the time I hit 6500 feet the manifold pressure is nil, airspeed drops to 50 Kts and I stall. Going back down to 4500 feet brings the manifold pressure back up enough to climb.

I turned on the Windshield Deice switch and lo and behold manifold pressure stays up enough to climb over the mountains. :o

Don't think I've done this one yet, so you'll have to take this as a guess:

Check cowl settings and lean mixture as you climb to maintain manifold pressure.
You could be 'cooking the engines as you climb with cowls fully shut.
May the Mynd be with you.
So far my number of landings either passenger or pilot equal my number of takeoffs.

I had that same problem and I can confirm the above is the solution. Turn the De-Ice buttons on located behind the yoke.
