Boeing F/A 18E Super Hornet Packaged for FSX - Glass Problems

Postby agrees » Tue Aug 25, 2009 9:49 pm

Hey there, need some help.  I recently downloaded the Boeing F/A 18E Super Hornet Packaged for FSX packaged by Chris Evans and as with the other hornets from KBT, which have been adjusted to work with FSX SP2+ all I get from the cockpit is black (except for the hud and around the canopy frame).  For a long time I tried to correct the other models, and was hoping this one would be ok, but no luck.  I've tried to look for the offending texture file to see if I can correct the alpha channel, but no luck.

Anyone have this issue and/or know the offending texture so I can fix it?

My machine is a Phenom Quad 9850, GTX 260, 8Gb RAM, 2Tb HDD, Vista (32), FSX SP2 (Acceleration), FTX SP3b, REX2, ASA, and everything else in FSX works fine.

You're not the only one, but I fear there's no solution, or at least I've never seen anybody able to solve the problem.
The fact is that some people can see through this glass, me for example (FSX Acceleration), but some cannot, even when they run FSX SP2.
I don't know the origin of the problem. It seems that it's not a problem with the textures, but with the model instead.

In that case I suspect this is a display issue. It could be due to your video card or FSX display settings. Possibly something like the version of display driver you're using. There are so many possible variables it's difficult to give specific advice.

I have the same problem on a 3.00GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with a ATI RadeonHD 4850 running Windows Vista. I have FSX SP2 aswell. I have tried finding the offending texture to reverse the alpha on but can't find it, but sounds like that may not be the problem??

Sorry for the late response but have been away travelling.  I can see what you are all saying so have built a second drive with XP SP3 instead of Vista in the same box, rebuilt FSX to the same level and used the same video drivers and the model and views work fine.  My only guess at this time is that there is something to do with Vista.  Will keep playing around and if I find a solution will post here.

It's not a vista problem.

Discovery! It is certainly a model error, i just found a fix for it (I CAN'T REMEMBER THE URL!), it replaces some, not all, but some of the models in the aircraft folder, the replaced ones will have perfect VC glass but the un repaired will remain the same :'(
so lately i've been trying to hunt down the packager of my f18 (file name "FA18EX") A certain Chris Evans, no luck :(, and it's annoying because i want a good freeware superhornet. i'll continue trying to find a fix for all of them but until then you're stuck :'(

Hi,

I've been trying to post a fix with the file (93KB) attached but I keep getting a message that it exceeds the allowable size.
I've uploaded the fix to some personal webspace that I have.  If it works for you please post and as I've changed ISPs and I'll make an effort to post the file elsewhere.
Here's the link:

I followed the directions exactly......

1) obviously d/l the fix,
2) copy the sh_05vc bmp into each of the RAAF texture folders....
3) load fsx
4) load plane
