So do we ignore atc or just judge each atc request as we get them?

I guess the correct answer would be: depends.

If you want some help getting from here to there you can try and consult the virtual imbeciles, and then discard everything they say that in real life would be considered a catastrophic idiocy, going all the way down to cancel IFR and change COM frequency to a random one not to be nagged.

Then there are those like me, who use maps, charts and moving maps props, who prefer not to be nagged at all and never use said virtual dope smokers.

Take your pick and, more importantly, have fun. ;)

I would never trust ATC. Yesterday taking off from TNCM a 727 was still on the runway from when it had landing, turned around and started taxiing back to the gate when ATC cleared me for takeoff. :o

Never mind the AI ;D ATC, I was at Leeds Bradford airport, over 17 years ago now when the ATC wanted an incoming 737 to land on the short runway.

The pilots landed on the main runway and asked for the extension number for the ATC, I bet a few words were said on that occasion.

So far my number of landings either passenger or pilot equal my number of takeoffs.

No one doubts a bout of idiocy may happen in real life, from time to time, even among real Air Traffic Control, Steve. Fact is though, under FS(anynumber) idiocy from the ATC is not a matter of a moment of rare happening, but the rule. ;D

I always follow ATC, even if the aircraft is turning onto the taxiway.

I don't think the ATC on FSX is completely trustworthy though. Once when I was doing a night time approach into Beijing, I was following ATC's instructions, and I noticed by altitude AGL was quite low. Soon the GPWS started giving me terrain warnings, and in a second or two, CRASH! Straight into a mountain!

That was a 777-300 fully loaded with passengers, and I doubt any of them survived.  :'(

I have disabled the default AI traffic and I use only some of the major airlines from WOAI that fly in the places I like. This reduces the traffic problems, while maintaining an interesting amount of traffic at the major airports.

In this context, I always follow the ATC orders. I remember one day I went to Madrid. Upon landing, a plane took too much time exiting the runway, so the tower told me to go-around. Doing so, I ended in a pattern with quite a lot of other Iberia planes, and that was cool. The next landing was ok, without problems. But you really have to watch your approach speed. Usually the AI flights approach at 180-200 knots, and decellerate only in short final, so you don't want to be slower than that.
