Need help with dual monitor in FSX

I just bought a msi geforce N460GTX and I cant find how to get my FSX to run a dual monitor view.
On youtube videos I saw I need choose resolution of twice the monitor span, which would be 3840x1080 for my monitors, but those are not in the list to choose from.
I get the main window spread out over both monitors, but not the cockpit window, or any of the other windows, they get stuck at the size of one monitor, leaving the second monitor black.
How do I extend my cockpitview over both monitors?

Hi,

This varies slightly with different OS you have installed.

If you use display properties and turn your second monitor on and then extend desktop to the second monitor you should be able to move your mouse from one screen to the other. Once you can do that start FSX, get into a flight and then try pressing ALT and Enter to change from full screen mode to windowed mode or press alt and change to window mode via the drop down menues.

In windowed mode you should be able to resize your screen to fit across both monitors. In display properties external to FSX, set resolution for both screen to be the same if you can.

I tend to use my second monitor as a seperate view or window for gps for example or Tower view/externall views, you'll need to 'undock' these extra views to get them onto the second monitor, right click on the gps (shift + 3 on main keyboard ) window and select Undock, you can then drag the window to your second monitor and resize it.

great when using a projector.

If on win7, right click desktop and use personalise to setup your monitors or go into control panel and setup appearence/personalisation there.

I also got GPS/radio/throttle on the 2nd monitor, thats simple enough. But when I want to stretch my cockpit over both monitors it doesnt get bigger than the size of one monitor.

I do know how to use 2 monitors, thats as simple as hooking up and use it. What I want to know is how to set up 'DUAL-monitor'.
I know how to switch between fullsceen mode and windowed mode and what I can do with that, thats in the manual.
What I need to know, is the part that is not in the manual, how to stretch that one specific subwindow, the cockpit view, over the whole FSX main-windows, that is already spread out over both monitors.

I'm failry certain that you can grab the corners of the 'windowed' cockpit and resize it to fit, I do think that you'll aspect ration problems in the the cackpit panels dials are round for the single monitor, sure you could stretch the panel left to right to fit but wouldn't the dials be squashed a bit?

I'll try and make time tonight Fri, it's a games night as the wife goes out , normally it's a ps3 night but will try it and see how mine looks, in VC mode it will prob be fine if I can keep the dials round in shape.

You'd have to keep looking down at speed height HSI, but we'd do that anyway in the real world.

I am not sure but I think in order to stretch a window into two screens you need hardware and software to do that. I currently have three monitors hooked up to a Matrox Triple head to make that happen. The other monitor for instruments works much like your situation where you can drag other windows into it. I use my 3rd and 4th monitors for instruments.

another option to look into is using the CRTL+ENTER / CRTL+BACKSPACE .. CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER / CRTL+SHIFT+BACKSPACE .. SHIFT+ENTER / SHIFT+BACKSPACE when you are in Virtual Cockpit depending on what side of the computer your 2nd monitor is on.

if 2nd monitor is on the left side of computer, put yourself in the RIGHT SEAT on the comptuer, open a new Cockpit window (which is default to the left seat) and drag THAT window over to the 2nd Monitor.



If 2nd Monitor is on the right side of the computer, open a new VC Window and move that view to the right seat, while your computer stays in the left.

Sorry, I think I dont completely understand what you mean.
What I get from it is one view-window with the left side of the cockpit on the left monitor and a 2nd view-window with the rightseat view on the right monitor, but that of course can never work because you'll get 2 different views on the runway  as well as in the cockpit, that wont work together with the movement of the camera...

I've tried the single view stretched across two monitors and it works fine, I didn't spend a lot of time on it but if you mess about with the screen resolutions you maybe able to get it as you want.

Your 100% correct in that if you have two different views, you changing view on one will not change view on the other.

Hmm, I've been trying several resolutions, I now even managed to create a double resolution of 3840x1080, but it doesnt have the desired effect.

I even tried Ultramon and some other programs to get this done adn with ultramon in fullscreen-mode, the moment I stretch over both monitors, it seems to do what I want, but right after it jumps back to the single monitor.

With which resolutions did you get this done, Steve? Maybe that can get me on the right track. And did you do this with only Win7 and FSX settings, or with help of a 3rd program?

I generally don't drop below 1024X768 and upto 1366 on second monitor or 1920 if I use the TV as second monitor via hdmi cable.

What I was trying to do was to set the view so that it was effectively twice the size of my monitors resolution, but I didnt get it exactly as I wanted, I couldn't get resolution on the laptop and external monitor the same.

I too want to get it a little better, In Aug at the radio control club we are having a simulator night.

Mine is very good on projector and superb on the TV.

I just used fsx and win7 screen settings, no other external programs.

I tried every resolution in the list, I tried every double resolution I could create with the custom function in hte Nvidia control panel and all with and without the use of ultramon, but still no luck.  :-/

Stupid thing is, other windows, like for example the GPS-window, does work fine and I can extend it to the size of both monitors by just dragging the edges, it are only the windows that function as a 'camera-view' that get stuck at the size of one monitor.

By now, everything works perfectly when it comes to the use of two monitors, its only that specific type of window, within FSX that show a seriously wrong attitude towards all my efforts...

Non the less, I'm still open to any sugestion you can throw my way. Keep 'm comming! lol
