I'm trying to find NickN's, Miltestpilot's, and Bjorn's posts, but the search function isn't letting me search for users.

I've got my settings set up according to the Nzone.com recommended list, and I've done the tweaks to the .cfg that were listed here. It seems to run smoothly for me, so do I really need to do any more tweaks?

In my recollection, nZone's recommendations aren't too bad, but they aren't all that good either.

The object for most of us is to get FSX scenery looking as good as it can, while maintaining SMOOTH.  Always smooth.

Therefore trade-offs have to be made.  And the nZone water settings are far too high.  I have seen conflicting advice, but either mid 1x, or low 2x.

Also if you are using the default AI, they are framerate killers.  Cut them back.

Insert the two autogen lines into fsx.cfg so that you can reduce trees and buildings per cell.

Then either go NickN's table of TBM and Swap Time (I'm saying this in shorthand, its all in the threads on this forum),  or Phil Taylors TBM and Fibre Frame Time Fraction tables you can find in his blog FSInsider.com).

It's a pain, but like all torture you can get used to it.

I still don't understand why there's still alot of sim pilots out there having a hard time running there FSX. I ain't got no monster machine, she's a 4 year old Dell DIM 2400. I added ram ( got 1000 now), added a ATI radeon 9250 Vcard and got me a cheap (but nice) Saitek ST290pro joystick. I added all that for FS2004. The only thing new I got for FSX was a DVD+R:DL. After going thru these threads and trying this and that I got my FSX running so good that I'm flying around the Caribbeans ( cause it's cold where I really live) and I can just about feel that warm tropical sun and smell the salt water in the air. Nick N your sun fix is fantastic. I'd like to say thanks to all who put in there time and talents to make my flight simming more enjoyable. So if any of you's are still having problems whit FSX you ain't doing your homework, study study and study these threads and experiment till you get it right. I say it took me about amonths time (when I can find the time) and like I said above, gotter running smooth. Like any hobby the more you put into it the better it getts.  ;D

Hey guys why do we constantly re-invent the wheel?

These tweaks and many more have been available on this site for twelve months.

And how to locate the Fsx.cfg file has been explained a dozen times.

But I agree the Search function is hard to use, it is difficult to specify what is needed accurately - therefore the internal logic simply fails and we are told nothing found.

However the Mods might make one or two of the threads that ran for so long stickies to avoid this repetition every time someone new finds the site - or someone old needs to check something and finds the search function too hard to specifiy.

You dug up a two year old thread, but you didn't look in the FAQ thread at the top of the FSX board?

One thing to remember, when searching your computer for files you know exist, ensure that the 'include non-indexed, hidden, & system files' is checked ;)

I've been using the terrain edit and it works fine. But, the shader cache primed edit shows no change in the sim and every time I close the sim and go back to check,

it has removed my shader cache edit and reverted to the previous entry. I also have several lines below that, "SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED_10=1693500672". I tried

changing just the first one and then both, with the same results, no change in the sim and the cfg reverts to what it was before.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.
