Add-on Scenery won't work

Postby AvroArrow » Thu Feb 03, 2011 4:49 pm

I've lost track of the number of times I've tried to add new airports and scenery and they don't work. Ever. I follow the install instructions, add to the add-on scenery file, then open FSX. Go to settings, add scenery and IF the files I downloaded into the add on scenery folder appear, that's as far as I get. When I click on the file I want to add, nothing happens. Click click click, nothing nothing nothing.

Win7, right?  It's a known glitch, but there is supposedly a fix, but I've not had too much luck with it.

Supposedly, when you get to the step where you select the file you are adding, you "right click" someplace, and it is supposed to work.  But, like I said, I haven't had too much luck.  Perhaps someone can post a more difinitive instruction for the work-around.

Unfortunately I have Vista. I've tried right clicking, left clicking on everything and even hitting enter. It just does nothing. Not even add-ons with a built in installer work.

Have you tried double clicking on the zip folder, getting to the named (unzipped) folder that has texture and scenery subfolders?

I have Vista also.

Most 3rd party scenery comes configured ready for install these days but make sure you install the correct folder to your FSX\Addon Scenery directory.

Okay. I have messed with a bit and gotten some things to work, but not others. I am a big military aviation fan, so I have been trying to install a kick-ass airbase to operate from.
I downloaded "Canada Airbase" which i finally added to the add-on scenery, however I can't find it in the sim. I also downloaded Anderson AFB in Guam(download package) which I successfully added to the scenery, but again, nothing new appears when I go to the base. I also installed Griffis AFB(KRME) where all new buildings and such appear, however none of the static vehicles or aircraft appear. I also downloaded CFB Comox (CYQQ) which has an installer package that has an incomplete or corrupt installer archive.

I can only say that you certainly know how to pick 'em. ::)

Let's start with the easy one. Canada Airbase here ---> http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=Canadian+Airbase&x=23&y=19

I installed it but couldn't find it either until I downloaded Phase 2. Then all became clear as the provervial mud.
The airfield is named Trial Airport
ICAO Code

Thank you very much for the help! I will forget about those for the time being. I now have RAF Coningsby which is awesome! I'll be able to enjoy my UKMIL Tornado there.
Here is the link for Anderson in Guam  javascript:openWindow('download-file?file=Andersen_AFB_Scenery.zip',%20800,%20400).

Again; thanks for all the time and help!

Another word of advice (from someone who's killed FSX more times than I care to recollect) is to copy your main fsx.exe and visualfx.dll somewhere safe.

These are the things that fatally go awry when, or if, you mess up scenery add-ons.

Yep! The Anderson scenery works! Can1 looks great, but I crash the airplane every time I run over the runway numbers or, if I taxi around them, I crash when I over-fly a building!

Hmm, I see what you mean. Must be a bug in the scenery. You could contact the author* as he might not realise it.

Yeah, I couldn't find a contact address either. Like you said, I'll just disable crash detection.
