how to take off with Piper cub ?

Hello all,

I recently purchased flight sim X after using for years FS9, but found the same problem experienced with FS9. I can take off with almost every planes or helicopters , but can't do it  with the default Piper Cub. This f...ing bird keep on turning left and crash as soon as it passed a few miles per hours on the runway (where ever it is) . Can some one tell me how to take off with  it ?

Check that there is no side winds first.
Then, go easy with the thottle, don't set it to max, and try to control the orientation of the plane. Push the stick forward to raise the tail as soon as possible, then wait until you have enough speed to leave the ground

Any single engine prop AC will pull to the left with the throttle open, and pull slightly right with the throttle closed, this is even more pronounced in the initial stages of the ground roll during take-off.....(especially in a tail-dragger)....try googling "P-Factor"
As Daube said, throttle up slowly and be ready with plenty of right rudder......once you can ease the tail section off the ground then the pulling to the left will lessen as more wind over the control surfaces holds the tail section in place.

This is not necessarily correct as it depends on the rotation of the prop. Some engines rotate in the opposite direction to the Continental & Lycoming. This can be simulated in FS.

what romflyer is saying is that any single prop single engine will have some torque effect that does it's best to take you off the runway.

FRjeff: try external view: you'll get a better idea whats happening because of the torque effect, as already said, feed in right rudder as you increase throttle.

also check your WEIGHTS AND BALANCES (fuel and payload) I suspect that you have a fat guy in the left seat, and noone in the right for counter-weight. if that is the case, tell another fat person to get in on the right side to balance it out... or tell the pilot to go on a diet.  (this is in payload)

something is not level as far as weights in your bird.  My DHC-2 Beaver Amphibian use to roll to the left a lot till i looked into the fuel and payload.  found out that there was a 250 LBS pilot and no one else in the plane.  So, i told him to run up and down the runway till he lost 100 lbs, and then i called his friend that weighs 150# and told him to right ride seat.  now she flies like a dream.

I just tried the default Piper J3 (Yellow) and couldn't recreate severe engine torque in calm weather, real world weather or stormy weather. I also tried with and without auto rudder and all this at three different airports. I only got slight torque maybe because the cub takes off from the runway so quickly? My settings are all medium or higher. I can get more engine torque out of the Extra because it's got more horsepower, but then again the Extra takes off the runway in short order.

fuel and payload (CHANGE PAYLOAD) i doubt that you have a pilot that weights 95 pounds, and a copilot that weighs 95 pounds also.  I bet there are some sort of weight issues there as well as the trim.  might want to check on that. 

if i am right, then you will want to go to the .cfg and add the counter balance weight for the copilot.

Torque and P-factor are actually undermodeled within the sim (IMHO) and it has nothing to do with who is sitting in what seat, or how much he/she weighs, or how the aircraft is trimmed (assuming pitch), or adjusting the .cfg file.....when you push the throttle forward the plane should and will pull hard to left (easy Hagar )......surprisingly hard. The game will model this with all the realism settings to the right, but with most models it really should be stronger.

Never had a problem with takeoff but landing the default J3 is suicidal. Ground loops 9 out of 10 times. For me, anyway.

Not meaning to hijack the thread but what does engine torque actually do to an aircraft, physically. In the case of an auto engine, if you loosen the the bolts from the engine mounts and hit the throttle the engine will try to roll over to one side. In a single engined prop aircraft, mounts securely fastened, Engine torque should be putting pressure on one wheel and lessoning pressure on the opposite wheel. In the Cub I can also imagine the prop trying to "swim" the nose towards the heaviest wheel. So I am thinking the lighter the pay load, the more torque should affect the aircraft. Is my theory right, or wrong?
