just an idea want to run fsx on w7 64 bit

Postby bombardier » Sun Jan 23, 2011 6:04 pm

hello:

I have read a couple of posts about w7 and 64 bit. I want in the future to get a new computer with w7 64bit on it procssors, and  graphics card I do not know. I know that w7 premium 64 bit has a xp compatibility mode in it would that work also?

I know some members are having trouble with fsx in w7 it just makes me wonder if I should buy w7 64 bit with xp compatibility mode with it or ust stick with the xp version. as for all the planes I dl how would I know if they will work in w7.

would like any advice and opinions on this topic

thanks in advance

I agree with the above comments, the UAC is more or less the first thing I have disabled in my Win7 64 :)

However, I'm not so sure about the comments on the default install path. I don't think the default install path can cause any issue at all. However, as it is always recommended to install FSX on a different hardrive than the operating system, the result in the end is the same ;)

Finally, the one and only bug that you can expect with FSX and Win7 (32 or 64) is the scenery library bug that prevents you from adding sceneries. But that's really nothing, since the solution consists in clicking just once more than usual  ;D (a lot of topics are talking about this)

Agree and disagree.  :)

The default install path CAN cause issues with FSX even with UAC disabled. W7 treats the Programfiles folder very differently than other folders. If you use no add-ons of ANY kind, you will probably not have an issue but any add-on that installs into the FSX default folder also can have issues. usually it manifests in settings not getting saved or system crashes due to denied access.

It MAY not happen but it HAS happened enough to be a common warning. Better safe than sorry - do not install in the default or install tyhere and take your chances.
