Well, I managed to make a couple passable landings, not sure why it wasn't working before. ::)

How do the elevators work? What keys should I map to what commands.

Elevators are automatic (I think only the aft one works)........so, be careful that you're not halfway on or off when it starts to move ;)
EDIT I just remembered that there are carrier missions in FSX Acceleration (or Gold) There is a tutorial mission then a practice mission and finally you land during IMC.
Also, try dumping your fuel before landing. The lighter you are, the better. Be careful not to dump it all though, it goes pretty fast.

Sir Puma,

Need to practice at the lower speeds, go for a runway first, pick a point to land on and keep at it.
I find on the Nimitz but my nose seems to slam into the deck.

I've done the tutorial and the imc without problems, I keep doing the imc missio cos I enjoy it, but the carrier quali flights are a pain for some reason.

The video in this thread: the speed looks fast??
The IMC mission asks you to do Final speed of 130 not 150 The AoA index is showing mainly too much speed/nose low on the approach.

Like Chuck said, it sound like you're trying to land with loads of fuel on. Try taking off with less than 25% fuel and then coming around to land, should be much easier.

There are some mods out there for the default F18,to fix the landing on carrier issues, improve the HUD and a few other things , so do a search for f18 mods. The default has a tendency to rollover when it

So you can park down below.  Wonder what I am doing wrong.  The three or four times I have tried it I break the threashold of the elevator and it says crash, the boat keeps going and the plane stands still.  I might be hitting the wall or something.

Just one thing that might help others 'crashing' on the lift: Are they folding the wings before using the lift - just an idea that they might not be.
