Adding aircraft to FSX help please

Hi all, I am new to this so sorry if the question has been asked before.
Can someone take us through the steps of how to add a new aircraft into FSX.I must be missing a step.
I have downloaded some files like Cathay's old colours 747, followed the read me instruction however for the life of  me I cant get it to work.
Also is there a KAI TAK add on for FSX?

Place "Cathay 744v4 B-HOW Old" file in:  Microsoft FSX/Sim Objects/Airplanes
Also there is an "Effects" folder inside the  "Cathay 744v4 B-HOW Old" file.
This needs to be placed in the main Microsoft FSX folder

Thank you for the reply.
I did the installation and the Cathay aeroplane does not show like the other liveries. but when i press one of the 747 liveries it then displays the cathay aircraft.actually they all do once selected.So I no longer get a choice at the default 747 aeroplanes.
Also the wheels are not exactly on the ground they are a couple of mm off the ground.
The effects folder needs to be placed where?

there should be a defualt folder labled "effects" ---> put your new effects folder in there.

This is incorrect. You don't put the effects folder in the effects folder. You copy the contents of the effects folder from the download and paste them in the Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Effects folder.

Or you can just drop the Effects folder into the main FSX folder (like I said in my first response but, I like to copy them and leave a copy inside the airplane file so that I know which effects go with which airplane) and it will merge the two folders

Lowslo, inside the Cathay 744 folder there will be a folder called "texture".
Open that folder and see if there is a "thumbnail" photo inside. This is what FSX uses to display the aircraft in the main menu. If not, just take a screenshot of the plane, then you can rename the shot thumbnail (also you probably want to re-size it way down) and place it in the Cathay 744/texture folder. Your aircraft should then show up in the main menu

I DL'd it, and had no problems.  Are you looking under "Boeing" or "Project Opensky"?

I downloaded also and had no problems except, there is no sound
