Square Smoke??

Postby 2old2fly » Sun Nov 07, 2010 3:15 pm

Anyone have any idea what caused my vapour, smoke, flying dirt, etc. to show as black squares?

Missing .bmp for that particular smoke effect, would be my guess. does this occure for all aircraft with smoke, or just one particular aircraft?  If just one aircraft, was it an ass-on, if so, which one, and did it have a "texture" for the effects, if they are custom smoke effects?

"ass-on"? haha.

This could mean a lot of things.. the image isn't re converted for the game, or is missing from the folder..

Open Aircraft.cfg and scroll down 'till you find:

[SMOKESYSTEM]
smoke.0=-5.00, -75.00, 18.00, fx_smoke_rx
smoke.1=-5.00, -75.00, 15.00, fx_smoke_rx
smoke.2=-5.00, -75.00, -15.00, fx_smoke_rx
smoke.3=-5.00, -75.00, -18.00, fx_smoke_rx

Then go to (Game folder)/Effects/texture.. and make sure fx_smoke_rx is there & converted for gameplay :)

Re-reading the post, it looks like some of the effects .BMP may be missing.  Usually fx_1 and fx_2 bit maps.  Check the texture sub folder in the effects folder for those BMPs.

(Well, the "s" is next to the "d".. :P )

i used to have this problem as well, i also had square lights.
i never did fix it but i will warn you that it is what led to my flight simulator crashing to an unfixable point a week late, now i would rather have square lights than no simulator, good luck... and i think it can be cured by putting the disk back in and selcting repair.
