Postby jlab58 » Thu Oct 28, 2010 6:27 pm

i just got a new computer after burning the last one and find myself with win7. i tryed to install AIcarriers2 and had no luck. the self installer didn't do the job and the manual install explanation with the tweaking of file name exe.mxl got me puzzled. the win7 research engine only send me back to the read me found in the Aicarriers2 pack. does anybody succeed in installing it on win7. and does that person got a point by point tutorial for helping a friend in need.

I believe you have to install it "as an administrator" (right click menu) for it to install properly.
Then, when it comes to the EXE.xml, if I remember correctly, I had to create it myself, copy-pasting the content from the readme file. Then it worked :)

thank you daube, but i'm afraid it's not that simple. i understood the part, open as an administrator and i see in the read me that i should create a file, i understand that, but what name should i give the file? should i put all the content of the example in that created file? and where should i put that file?i understand these guys put a lot of time and effort in this program, but i said it before they sometimes forget that we regular jo 6 pack have no knowledge of computers.so, unless i have more info i'm gonna have to land on ground for a while.thanks again!

If you unzip the 'manual install.zip, you should be able to see a folder called 'AICarriers'. Put this folder in you main FSX folder.

thank you tpollen for your reply. but obviously it is't meant to happen. i can't find fsx.cfg file, i carefully check the box , show the hidden files in my research engine, but it still can't find any matchs with fsx.cfg. i am way over my head here. i seem to remember that even with win XP, it was kind of tricky to find that file, but i'm totally lost here. thanks again!

You will find the fsx.cfg file and the exe.xml file at:

C:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX

This has nothing to do with the fsx.cfg file.

Assuming your OS is on C: and you have not moved your Users folder then for Win 7 the exe.xml file is at:

C:\Users\Your Name (PC Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\exe.xml

Once you find it paste in the information provide by tpollen above.

On my Win7 PC here is where I have my AICarriers folder and my FSX folder:

F:\Program Files\AICarriers
F:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

If you have not already then you should completely disable UAC.

To Disable UAC:
Head into Control Panel and type UAC into the search box, or do it from the start menu. Then drag the slider down to the bottom.- In the resulting window, move the slider all the way to the bottom.

REBOOT.. you MUST REBOOT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE

If it helps here is my exe.xml file

LaunchEXE.xmlFalseFalseFalseFalseAutothumbnailF:\Program Files\Autothumbnail\Autothumbnail.exeFalseFalseAICarriersF:\Program Files\AICarriers\aicarriers.exe-nogui

Note that you will have to modify my path to agree with your path.
F:\Program Files\AICarriers\aicarriers.exe

Note that mine also included autothumbnail.

The above comments are spot on.
Additionnaly, you can "format" the text in the EXE.xml to make it more readable.

Here is how mine looks:
[code]
Launch
EXE.XML
False
False

here's the latest development on this saga. as i said i found my exe.xml file. mine is called EXE  then document xml. so i compared it with sample exe. the first line is different, the sample says: but the path isn't right.in my original EXE the path is right but the first line isn't there. should i say that all these scripts are in multi colors, blue, red and black. i can't open any of them with notepad the program tells me that for my protection some function have been blocked and even when i say yes i want to open it anyway i cant change anything! so is it where the UAC disabled come in the picture, if yes can you tell me what exactly UAC stand for, because my pc is configured in french, so i need to translate that and see if i can find something that matches it? you see my friends the saga continue and this really is getting ridiculous. if you decide to abandon, i will totally understand.and as we say at home:" AIcarriers2 mange d'la marde!" thank you all for your patience!

The UAC is the User Account Control.
It's meant to prevent the novice and unexperienced users from modifying files that could eventually be critical for the computer.

To disable it, you'll have to go into:
Panneau de configuration
Systeme et Securite
Centre de Maintenance
=> Modifier les parametres du controle de compte d'utilisateur
Then put the cursor to the minimum.
Of course, your Windows User must also have the administrator rights... if somebody could confirm that please ?

Ah yes, one last thing. When you mentionned that your EXE.xml was just nammed "EXE". This is because your system is hidding the extension of the files whose type is known. You can disable that, it's exactely in the same option screen where you enabled the display of hidden and system files and folders.
