helicopter engine problem in missions

helicopter engine problem in missions

Postby vgbaron » Tue Oct 12, 2010 5:33 pm

I have two major problems with the helicopter missions.

1) *SOME* of the missions, when selected, after reading the detail, etc and clicking FLY - will start a "flight" but not the mission - IOW, after It loads, I get no instructions, etc. Doesn't happen on ANY of the fixed wing missions.

2) this is a real problem - flew several of the EH101 missions - some successful - some not. Started a new EH101 mission - took off - one or two minutes later - engine dies. Loaded different EH mission - same thing - engine dies after a few minutes.

Reloaded FSX, rebooted system and reloaded FSX, loaded a default fixed wing a/c and the switched to the mission - same thing - engine quits after 1 or 2 minutes.

Only happening with the EH101 - other helo missions with the R22 or Jet Ranger work just fine but if I switch back to the EH101 missions - crash.

I'm guessing some variable has gotten stuck but I haven't any idea how to correct the problem.

Thanx,

Vic

ok,first this is not an answer. i'm not good enough at flying heli to take on any heli missions. just a few ideas that came to my mind reading your post.
1- the missions: did you went to breafing, maybe your suppose to take off maintain some heading and get more info in route.
2- as for the engine problems, i see that you have a mighty pc, did you push the realistic settings at very high, maybe you're suppose to manually change the mixture or any other engine function right after take off to stay airborn.
as i say i'm sure no expert. good luck.

Thanx for the thoughts. I've since found that it's not a mission problem but an EH 101 problem in my system.
I have my system set up so that all aircraft start out cold and dark. In a hurry the CTRL E start usually works but for some reason, it doesn't work on the EH101 -in or out of missions. Meaning, if the engine in the mission when it starts is already running, it will quickly die. I've tracked it down to a series of switches on the EH101 overhead panel that need to be switched on manually for the engine to keep running. I hit the combo by accident last night so tonight I'll try to narrow down to exactly which switches need to be thrown for start up. The fact that there is NO documentation for the EH101 doesn't help at all.

good for you. i'm not that far in my experience in sim to go on dark and cold. but i'm looking forward to it, just to increase the degree of realism.

Well I spent a lot of years flying IRL so a cold & dark start is the only way for me. However, I've had little real time in helo's and definitely none in the EH101. I found a limited checklist in FSX so at least I have something to follow for the startup sequence.
