FS9 propeller textures in FSX

Postby Frequent Flyer » Thu Jan 07, 2010 3:21 pm

I've recently installed Warwick Carter's Mustang P51 and it works perfectly fine in FSX, apart for the prop textures, which appear behind clouds.

Is there any tutorial saying how to make propeller textures FSX compatible?

Thanks!  ;)

I don't think there is anything you can do.  I  am dying for a solution, too if there is one.

There is no solution at all.
This is because it's an FS9 plane. Sometimes the prop appear behind the clouds and autogen, that's the best case. The worst case is when he prop appear in front of the autogen and clouds, that's REALLY ugly.

actually, there is something..
you can make the prop almost transparent, so that this problem becomes less obvious.
I've done this with a few aircraft, like the Alphasim Harvard and am quite happy with the result.

I'll have to try that.  Thanks!

I'll check it out, but from the pictures it seems like he does exactly what Jankees did.

You're right Frequent Flyer.
As I said before, there's no way to solve the problem itself, because it's lined to the way FSX handles the FS9 planes.
The problem occurs with any transparent part, so it affects the props and the canopies as well.
Making them even more transparent may help for getting the problem less noticable, but that's pretty much all.

I keep reading people saying it can't be fixed because of the difference in the modeling. Yet, I have a few FS9 native models that were updated for FSX and do not have the issue. Add to that, A2A has a patch that fixes the problem in the WOP P-51. I can't help but wonder, if due to vast differences in modeling techniques, different models require a different fix. Granted, I know very little about modeling and have never (probably never will) attempted to create one. I just do not understand why some are fixable and others are not.

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

It can be fixed, if you have the original gmax source  files.  ;)

Most people who convert FS9 sdk models to FSX sdk models,
simply load the gmax file up in the FSX ready version of Gmax,
and convert it to FSX standards.
It can be a bit of a hassle with part names and all,
but certainly, it can be easier than starting from scratch.

To fix the prop, they would change the part and it's attributes in Gmax,
as if they were making an FSX model.

Aside from this, messing with Alpha channels is the only other way of addressing this issue.  ;)
