Is it selected in the Settings/General/Missions Section? That's the easy answer. If that's not it, you may need to rewrite the cfg or repair the install. I'm no expert, so let someone else answer before you do that.

Doesn't the  U  key toggle it on and off?

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.
