Flight Simulator X IS Crash Prone: An Analysis

Postby usapatriot » Fri Jul 23, 2010 4:02 pm

First, of all, I would like to say that I have some evidence to prove that FSX is crash prone. These crashes are common and Googling them shows that countless others have had similar issues with there being any single resolution for them.

The two most common FSX crashes are the MSVCR80.dll and g3d.dll. If you Google these two errors with regards to FSX you will see that many others have experienced them and that no concrete solutions exist.

And this just me. There are a multitude of other different FSX crashes out there that happen for no apparent reason. Hell, the AVSIM forums have a dedicated sub-forum for FSX CTD's. Obviously MS never properly finished the game and polished to the point where it wouldn't crash so often.

You are in the miraculous minority. But the funniest thing of all is, it's most crash prone on Windows 7, which is ridiculous.

I (very) occasionally run it on my lowly Socket A, AMD 2600 Athlon Thoroughbred (2.1GHz) + nVidia AGP 7800 GS 256MB + Win XP Pro with out any major problems.
Obviously, I have to wind some of the settings down for smoothness, which then makes it less enjoyable than my FS 2004 with everything maxed!... :)...!

But I haven't experienced any "crash" problems since purchasing it when first released...no modifications...just the usual upgrade service packs installed.
My main reasons for not using it is because FS Navigator was not designed to run with it, which is useful for my regular Multiplayer Flights with other users!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004 (FSX)...FS Nav.... 8-)...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

FSX crashed big time in January 2009, all the other minor crashes you experience is because of "slider fever"!

http://gamerlimit.com/2009/01/end-of-th ... simulator/

Turn it down, no problems then...

BTW I bought the FSX Gold Edition recently ON SALE for 200 DKK (30 USD).

Maybe in 30 years I can make some dough reselling it as a vintage sim!

I haven't had an FSX crash yet,. Some underperformance moments but no crashes.  I said no crashes! Why are you on a mission to tell every one your woes... over and over?

It's not just me, there are thousands of FSX users out there with unexplained crash problems.

I've experienced the same issues on TWO different systems CONFIRMED to be STABLE using stock FSX Gold Edition installed per the guide in this forum.

OK, now that your calming down maybe someone here can help you out. I don't have W7 but if I can be of any assistance I will.. ;)

Just skimming your error, seems its an application error.

Don't rule out some latent instability in a 50%+ over-clock, either .. especially on a 64-bit O/S and its drivers..

I don't think I've ever had an FSX CTD, except when I was pushing the limits on porting in older FS9 add-ons, and before I got a good video card.

I also learned not to twiddle with things I didn't understand, like certain variables in the FSX.cfg.

usapatriot, is it your goal in like to tell everyone all the problems with FSX? If so, then just stop it. FSX may have a FEW bugs, but if you tweak everything right, it will run very well.

In short, the errors are not from FSX Gold. They lay elsewhere.

All the FSX crashes I've had have been related to add-ons or unstable overclocks. This is on Windows XP, Windows 7 on a multitude of different systems. It seems to me that there must be a compatibility issue that only effects some computers due to software configuration or something. Keep trying fixes, you should be able to find one that works...

Try installing .net framework 2.0 (do not uninstall old versions of .net framework either).

also

download and install this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/259403

If that doesn't work try reinstalling FSX and installing add-ons slowly and testing them. This might require you to uninstall all the addons however and I have no idea if it would work.
