Aircraft Texture Help

Postby Andy7212 » Tue Jul 20, 2010 1:09 pm

I've read a few guides on adding aircraft textures/liveries, and they pretty much say the same thing. However I have a problem when I get to the adding to the aircraft.cfg part...

So when I'm adding this thing (not the exact one I'm using, but this is an example)...
[fltsim.0]
title=Boeing 737-800 Paint1
sim=Boeing737-800
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=1
kb_checklists=Boeing737-800_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-800_ref
atc_id=N737W
atc_airline=Boeing
atc_flight_number=
ui_manufacturer="Boeing"
ui_type="737-800"
ui_variation="Boeing livery"
ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner"
ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation"
description="One should hardly be surprised that...."

So I add it and put the next number in the sequence after the fltsim and then I press save. A window pops up asking what to save it as and where to save it, so I just save it where it was before. Then it asks if I wish to replace the original file, and I press yes (otherwise I'd have two aircraft.cfg files). Then a window pops up saying "Access Denied". Any idea on why this happens, what I'm doing wrong, and how to fix it?

Btw, I'm using Windows 7, FSX, and Notepad.

Thanks in advance :)

The way I've been fixin' this little SNAFU is: rename the original file aircraft1, start a new notepad file, name it aircraft, minimize it. open the aircraft1 file in question, highlite the whole thing and "copy"  NOT CUT the entire contents, maximize your new notepad and paste, close and save...Wah-La your home, free...Check it out to make sure you didn't screw up and then delete the old one. I've had to do this with panel & sound files as well.

Enjoy,
Dave  ;)

The problem, is the Win7 UAC. (Vista also has this problem)

It really doesn't like it when you mess with anything in the C:/program files folder.

Best ways to fix this are:

-Turn off the UAC

-Install FSX outside of the default location
ex: C:/FSX

-Drag the aircraft.cfg on to the desktop, modify and save  it there, and then move it back when you are done.

Hope this helps.  :)

While I have a thread going, I have another question. If I download an aircraft or aircraft texture, will it only show up in the game when I choose to fly it, or will it also appear as other traffic?

It will only show up as a user selectable aircraft.

You can download special AI planes that fill the role of air traffic.

You can make the planes be AI flying around, but that is a rather resource intensive act, and is not recommended.  ;)
