FSX not downloading real-world weather

FSX including FSX Steam version.

FSX not downloading real-world weather

Postby Mr._Ryan » Thu Jul 08, 2010 10:05 am

For some reason, FSX is not downloading real-world weather for me. I have set the firewall to "allow" for FSX. When I click on real world weather (static) and "OK," it goes through the download process and ostensibly loads it into FSX, but I always get the same thing: 59* F, 53* F dewpoint, wind at 0 knots, etc. It's not even close (it's 95 flipping degrees here right now).

Any ideas?

There are two possible reasons:
- the weather next to your place is not available. Might happen sometimes. Try somewhere else.
- there is something linked to the Internet Explorer cache that has to be emptied. Launch IE and delete the temporary files, then try again.

Thanks. Some of them seem at least close after that, but I tried Albany, NY, NYC, a bunch in my area, and none of them are even close. Pretty odd.

That's what I get no matter where I try to download the weather from - 59 degrees, no wind, dew point 59, etc.

This is how we fixed this issue in FS2004, not sure if it works in FSX though.   ;)

When you play Microsoft Flight Simulator and turn on the Real-World Weather feature, the weather in the game may either be incorrect or may stay the same every day.

-CAUSE

This issue may occur if your Temporary Internet Files folder contains old copies of the weather data files, and the files are not replaced with new information.

-RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, empty your temporary Internet files folder before you turn on Real-World Weather. To do this, follow these steps:

#1 Quit Flight Simulator.
#2 Start Internet Explorer.
#3 On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
#4 On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet files, and then click OK.
#5 Start Flight Simulator, and then open the flight that you want to fly.
#6 On the World menu, click Weather.
#7 Click to select the Local Weather check box, and then click Real-world weather.
#8 Click OK.
#9 Flight Simulator updates the weather to the current conditions for the flight's current location.
