First-ever Windows 7 installation...

Postby hhomebrewer » Mon Jun 07, 2010 1:48 pm

I put it on just by itself and it looks good, more or less. I have trilinear filtering selected, anti-aliasing is selected and the target frame rate is set to 60. In all the other places where selections can be made, I have set them to high, very high or maximum values. It all looks pretty good. When I closed out of the program entirely and then went right back in, I get the below error message. What do I do now? I want to execute the program from the Desktop. After the install there was no Desktop icon, but I managed to get one there. That's when the error message started popping up. The program is definitely on the hard drive. I see it under Games. I click on it, and the error shows up.

49 views and no replies? Well, maybe we are not as smart as we think we are. I took my machine to my computer guru after I tried to associate an association with something that required an association but did not have such an association. So I associated my machine over to him. Before I took it over there, in my ignorance I ended up converting every icon on my Desktop to the one for Windows Media Center. When I tried to launch an icon, my computer opened WMC. Turns out a woman had done exactly the same thing on her machine yesterday. The fix is to find the sim in Games, then right-click and Send to Desktop as a shortcut. What I did was click Open with..., which moved the entire program away from where Windows wanted to find it. I associated thirteen bucks from my wallet into his for the fix. Now I get to install FSX again because we used Restore Point to go back to yesterday morning before I put FSX on. Aggravating, but I am on the go again...

Win7 is relatively new, so not everyone has it yet, and those that do probably do not have a handle on it's quirks yet.  You are a pioneer!  :)

Hello hhomebrewer,

I'm quite new to FSX (coming from the world of other games) and I'm not really speaking/writing english fluently (sorry!!). But I'm a Seven-addict.

I also faced "strange" reactions of Win7 with FSX ... and solved them (until now!!)

You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

As mentioned above, Win7 is a very new operating system at this point.  I changed over a little while ago and have been undergoing the expected "trials and tribulations".  Many issues have required a lot of reserch and patience in getting them solved.   I some cases applying ("associating") a lot of money to solve them (new software to replace stuff that will not run).

best,
