DME problem

Postby RickG » Wed May 26, 2010 11:19 am

Hi. I have developed a problem with the morse code identifier for the dme. It is always on, and I am having to listen to the beep beep beep all the time. I tried about 8 different planes, and they are all the same--dme will not turn off and the indicator light on the radio stack stays on all the time. Has anybody ever run into this problem before?  Thanks.

So what your saying is that even when you click on the light it won't shut off.  Could be a saved flight that might be causing the problem. Did you try a cold start? Load a flight and than shut everything down (make sure the radio is dark) ,save, reboot the sim and see if that helps. If that doesn't work than you might have a saved flight that is causing the radio to stay on and you might have to delete them all. If that don't work try letting the sim rewrite the FSX.cfg since it happens on different airplanes. Also did you download an add-on aircraft with a different radio system (stack), that might have made a change in your gauge files.

Hi. Well, I just deleted my saved flights, and it seems ok now, so thanks very much for the help.

I had this happen and if my memory is correct I just changed the freq on my NAV radios.

Next time it happens try changing the freq on both your NAV radios and both your COM radios.  The COM should not have to be changed, but go ahead just to make sure.

One of you NAV radios is probably tuned to the DME freq.

Yeah, I did try changing the radio frequency, and it worked as you suggest, but the deal was that I was using it for navigation purposes. Hate flying to a point, and not knowing how far away it is. I was just puzzled as to why I could not turn the audio off in the radio stack, regardless of which plane I called up, from the C172 to the 747. Anyway, as I said, I got it fixed now. Thanks for the input.

Next time try just turning off your com radios, I had the same thing and some how I got rid of the beep without losing the DME function.

AHA!! I figured out what happened. I was trying to bring up the throttles etc panel, and instead of hitting SHIFT 4, I hit CONTROL 4. Seems that ctrl 4 turns it on and off, but while on, you can't mouse click it off.
