I am back from a vacation down under and in Asia.. running a 980x , DDR3 2030 @ 7-8-7 timing and a Nv 480.

You guys have asked for a W7 tuning guide, well there it is

if you follow the directions and make SURE your Windows Startup is not all clutttered with crap startup programs, that should rock your world

Enjoy...

and may the force be with you,      Always

Nick,

What is your opinion on Bufferpools levels, considering recent discusions about them on Avsim?

Because I insist on running Nhancer with anti-aliasing and filtering, I guess the mythical Bufferpools=0 doesn't really apply to me.

read what I posted in the link above and if you must skip through the movie to get to the chase scene, then read the last several sections starting with

When it comes to tweaks, what you think a tweak is doing....

your answer is there in the entire last section starting with that statement

also, refer to this post and what I said below it too

I don't know about FFTF, but what you are saying is that "TextureMaxLoad x TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD" is completely full of it in regards to users running Unlimited frame rates.  I'm asking, simply due to the confusion that certain recent threads have generated.  That seems pretty important as to whether it is true or not.

Now, since SimV was my HOME for a long time, I wish to make an announcement here that I will not make anywhere else

First, this forum is a FAIR and BALANCED place. Unlike many forums who have turned to a marketing hole and I will not name any here, this forum has remained for the simmer and with simmers at heart..

THANK YOU PETE and the MODS who have maintained this spirit! I salute you all

However my time in this and other forums is coming to a close.

You do not know why I started my involvement with MSFS and why I spent a great deal of time helping people here and in other forums, now I will reveal that.

My grandson was a member here and many other forums for many years. He was spending what myself and his stepmother (his mother passed away in a car accident in 1998) considered an unhealthy amount of time at his computer and this hobby was one of the things he enjoyed. With that, I started getting involved online because he was a long distance from me and this was a the best way to assist him and at the same time be a mentor for him. We did not want to stifle his desires or direct him but instead try to guide.

He is in college now and still enjoys his games and MSFS when he has time however he no longer hangs out on the net. We have started a program for him to obtain his PPL and a lot of what he 'started' with for that, began right here.

Brett, you are one heck of a teacher, sir

Over the last several years we also lost a close friend, someone who we considered a family member who was involved at this forum in his last months and who lost a battle to cancer. He was a pilot and a hero in every respect of the word and I was happy to be close to him and his family in his final days.

That is what is important in life, not computers and flight sim, and its what I wanted to inspire in my grandson before he embarked into the real world pursuing his education.

I will continue to assist Anthony Vos with the Ground Environment project as long as I can, however I have done my bit for King and Country, and family, and its time for me to move into my twilight where I have a boat that needs me.

I know I have not been around here much in the last year or so.. I have been monitoring. I am glad to see this forum has remained true to what Pete envisioned years ago, and I sincerely hope it remains that way

Sincerely and from the heart,

Nick Needham

Nick,

You have helped so many people enjoy flight simming over the years by tweaking systems, getting the correct hardware, and understanding what is and is not possible, myself included.

THANKS for all you have done and the vast contributions you have made here at SimV.

Your expertise will be missed.

Enjoy the boat.

best,

I discovered FSX 1 year ago, and shortly thereafter Simviation and Nick's excellent advise.

Looking back it's been a tremendous help, and still is, you wouldn't believe what FSX settings I'm able to run on my rather average PC!

Thank You very much for the assistance and the inspiration...

Cheers

Well, I was wondering how you got any time to spend with the boat with your schedule, now I know - you didn't.

Enjoy Nick! You certainly deserve it. And food & drinks still there if you ever get down here.

You will be missed, Thank you for all your help. I would have given up MSFS if I hadn't stumbled across your threads.
Thanks Nick!  ;)

I hate to see you go but I also understand.  Each person needs to set the priorities in their life or it's not their life.  If you hadn't done all of the work you did in understanding how FSX actually worked and then all of the work you did on GEX I would have definitely given up on this sim.  Good luck and God bless.
