Smoke effects may not have been part of the package.  You can add them by modifying the aircraft.cfg file.  If you have a jet with smoke effects that work, look at it's .cfg file, find the smoke effects. and add them to your F-14 and adjust the "X-Y-Z" (The last three columns of numbers in each "smoke.X" line) to the F-14. Be sure to renumber the "smoke.X" to "smoke.0, smoke.1, smoke.2, etc.

The -Y-Z format is: "X" is front to back (Should be a negative number for an F-14) "Y" is left or right (Negative is left) an "Z", up and down.

I have the FSX F14DRev3 that has

startup=fx_F14_StartupHeat     //smoke puff and 5 seconds of heat at engine startup

listed under the [EFFECTS] section in the Aircraft.cfg

if you want the effect, give me your email addy so that I can send it to you.   ... you will also need to add that line ^ to your AIRCRAFT.CFG [EFFECTS] section.

[EFFECTS]
wake=fx_wake
water=fx_spray
dirt=fx_tchdrt
concrete=fx_sparks
touchdown=fx_tchdwn, 1
startup=fx_F14_StartupHeat     //smoke puff and 5 seconds of heat at engine startup

ahh.

I do not have the Alpha F104, all that i deal in is F14, 16, 18, and a few props, radials, and helo's.

I do have a "controlled heat @ 10% throttle" under [smokesystem] though that does produce a ever so slight heat shimmer while flying.....

smoke.0=0.0, -25.00,
