Saitek Flight Controls

Postby Tyler012 » Wed Mar 10, 2010 7:30 pm

I just recently (today) got my Pro Flight Controller from Saitek. (Much rejoicing!) And I want to know if anyone else uses this yoke, and if so, how do you have your controls configured? I haven't really had the time to tiddle with it but I'd like to have a few ideas in the basket for when I get the chance! ;D

Well here's how I set it up.

Hat switch is pretty obvious.
A1: NAV/GPS toggle
A2: add Fuel
B1,2/C1,2: trim in the obvious manner
D: Push to talk in multiplayer
E: Gear raise/lower

On the throttle I have 3 setups

1: For Propeller aircraft
T1,2: Flaps up/down
T3,4: Cowl flaps up/down
T5,6: Magneto control

2: Jets
T1,2: same as set 1
T3,4: Autobreaks
T5,6: Spoilers

3: Carrier operations
T1,2: same as set 1
T3: Extend launch bar
T4: Arm catapult
T5: Launch
T6: Hook extend/retract

I've really enjoyed having the Pro flight system, I bet you will too!

I do not use the yoke...it just hangs on the side of my computer hutch acting
as the 'junction box' to connect the dual throttle quadrants.

I use my X-45 stick to fly along with the X-45 throttle buttons and
switches ( throttle axis disabled ).

I have the 12 switches on the Pro quadrants programmed via FSUIPC
( I do not use the Saitek software ) and have aircraft specific setups
for most of my 'advanced' aircraft ( A2A B377, P-47, etc ).

Using FSUIPC and the included Lua facilities I have, in one case,
70 functions mapped to the switches on the Pro quads.
( seven sets of 10 functions each and one pair of switches dedicated to change the 'set' selection )

I can fly those aircraft and rarely need to touch the keyboard of the mouse :)

On the X-45 throttle I have the #2 hat assigned to switch CameraDefinitions
in the VC environment. With a flick of my thumb I can move to the right seat,
the overhead panel view, the FE station, etc. Whichever Camera views I chose
to assign a "HotKey" to.  The #1 hat is the normal view switch but since I use
TrackIR4 it is only useful when I need to pan the view beyond the TIR limit
by putting TIR in 'Pause' mode. Usefull for looking down to the sides of the
seats when there are controls there I need to see.

I have the gear, flaps, ATC select ( 1-8 ), elevator and rudder trim and a few
other things mapped to the X-45 buttons, rotaries and switches.

If I wish, I could use the yoke since I use velcro strips to mount the
various controllers. I just lift my keyboard ( an old extra wide programmable
kybd with two keypads ), mount the yoke to the velcro beneath, and then set
the keyboard on top of the yoke housing.

The stick and Pro quads sit on either end of the keyboard and the
X-45 throttle sits below my keyboard drawer, on top of an old medium
tower case tha I had laying around :)
