I believe that the answer is no.

With that said you can back up some folders like Airplanes, Rotocraft, gauges, effects, etc. so if you do have to reinstall, once reinstall you can just replace those folders, that way you do not have to reinstall any freeware aircraft.  Any payware aircraft should be installed from scratch.

Some of these programs put to many entries in the registry to be able to just copy everthing back over.

I have all my addon airport scenery that does not require separte scenery and texture folders in a folder I recreated call Addon AP Scenery and another folder call Addon AP Folder for scenery where each addon AP requires their unique ap/scenery-texture folders.  I also keep a backup of these so if I ever have to reinstall, once everything is loaded I just copy these in and then activate them in the scenery library.  The Addon AP Scenery is activated and then all the separte AP folders in the Addon AP Folder have to be activated individually.

I don't see why you couldn't do that. I copied my whole FSX folder to an external drive with more room a few months ago and it still works great.

Don't forget "Flight Simulator X Files" in My Docs, and the FSX.cfg.

After doing many reinstalls ( while tweeking ), I've learned to back up the files that are most likely to be changed:

Scenery, Textures, Effects, and any modified CFG's all copied on to CD's.

All my aircraft and add-on scenery are copied on to CD's.

My FSX.cfg, logbook.BIN, GrantedRewards & GrantedRewardsOld.BIN, copied on to CD's.

So If I ever have to do another reinstall (God forbid), I'll clean out the registry, and search for any rouge files, and do a clean install, and put everything back from my CD's. The only pain in the butt, is if you got utillitys that run with the sim (autothumbnail, FSUIPC, ect.) it's best to uninstall them and reinstall from download sites (SimV, Avsim, ect.) so they work properly. So I keep a list of them on an index card with the name of the site I downloaded it from.
FSX is a labor of love, and if it wasn't for the great help and knowledge from this site, I'd still be flying 2004 ;D!
