Stock MD-80 landing light effect on ground

Postby Tech Diver » Wed Feb 10, 2010 6:18 pm

The stock MD-80 seems to be missing the effect where the landing light is illuminating the runway. Is it possible to add this through one of the CFG files?

Yes, that is possible, I can either attach a replacement .cfg or tell you how to do it manually.

Which would you prefer?

I like to do things manually, so if you could describe the proceedure, that would be great.

Thanks!

Ok, I'll try to explain this the best I can. But I might not do too good a job so feel free to ask away if something doesn't make sense. ;D

First of all go to your main FSX folder, and open the simobjects/airplanes/MD_83 folder.

Inside that folder will be a file named aircraft.cfg, open this file in notepad or your preferred text editor.

Scroll down to where it says [LIGHTS] (Should be about 2/3 of the way down.).

The entry under lights should look like this=

[code]
[LIGHTS]

Thanks Raptor but I am very familiar with that section and what I am looking for is something different. Namely, I want to add the effect of an illuminated runway due to the landing lights, but not change the lights themselves. In fact, I have already added 3D landing lights on the wingtips and taxi lights for the stock MD-83. The only thing missing is the "ground wash".

Thanks again,
Peter

I don't know what .fx file adds the ground lighting, anyone else know?

I just posted this in the Aircraft & 3D Design section of the forum. It seems like this is the sort of problem they would come across. By the way, the stock Dash8-100 has the same issue.

The "ground splash" is produced by polygons IN THE MODEL. Since the model does not have them, they cannot be added in without the original .max or .gmax source code.

Fr. Bill, thank you for clearing up this issue (though it was not that answer that I was hoping to hear). I'm rather disappionted that the developers chose to leave out this feature, but I guess I either have to learn to live with it or remove the stock MD-83 and Dash-8.
