Flying Aircraft-Carrier

Postby hoverunder » Wed Jan 27, 2010 10:17 pm

I'm a keen newbie, so please give me a large dose of tolerance for my ignorance.
I have an Aircraft-Carrier [Download] that has installed amid my aircraft.
How can I use this in a scene and use it for landing a plane?
How can I place & control two objects?

Appreciate any help.

Hi and welcome.

Don't worry about your ignorance, we all had to learn.
There are two cases:

- if you have downloaded a carrier that is a native FSX model (not a carrier from FS9), then you can use it with the scenery creation tools that are included in the FSX Deluxe SDK. Of course, you have to know how to create sceneries, how to use those tools. Personnaly, I have no idea :/

- the other solution is to download a freeware module nammed "AI Carriers 2" here in the "FSX utils" section, as well as the Nimitz carrier pack (I don't remember in which FSX section... maybe "FSX Misc"...).

AI Carriers is an utility that allows you, while you are flying, to make a carrier appear right in front of you, whenever you want. Then, you can also give some orders to the carrier, like going forward, turn and stop. It's very convenient. By default, when you install just this freeware module, it will make the default Acceleration carrier appear. But once you install the Nimitz carrier package (following precisely the instructions given in the readme), you will also be able to make this beautifull Nimitz (much more detailled than the Acceleration carrier) appear.

If you perform a "Search" on this forum with "Nimitz", you will probably find the topic that was describing this fantastic addon, as well as some explanations on how to make it work with AI Carriers. There have been a lot of discussions about it, with a lot of people describing their problems and their solution. Good reading ;)

Thanks - I do appreciate this detailed reply and your excellent help.
It seems as if I've embarked upon a very stee-ee--eep learning curve.
Still, as you said, we all have to learn.
At least this form was a good move.

Do not over-estimate this learning curve ;)

There's a lot of stuff, but basically the only difficult thing is to follow precisely the installation instructions.
In order to avoid the usual traps, the best thing to do is to collect as much feedback and infos as you can from the guys who tried the stuff before you.

That's why, for any addon you want to install/use, you first have to go through the forum to see what happenned to the other guys. You'll find out that there's always a lot of new guys facing a lot of problems, that's how you learn how to avoid those problems. It's not difficult, it just take some time.
