Personally, I have found FSX just as easy to set up as FS9, maybe even easier as the default scenery is decent. I have to install huge amounts of mods for FS9 to get it to look good, whereas FSX looks good right out of the box.

No performance issues, everything runs fine. Easy to set up, no more tweaking than fs9 imo. All I did was install FSX, install acceleration, set up nhancer, change settings in the simulator, and I'm done.

And on my PC, FSX is better than FS9. If you have a low end system then you may differ.

Installing aircraft and panels is usually exactly the same as FS9, only put them in the simobjects\aircraft\ folder. Not hard.

NNNG... FS X....constant locked 26 FPS.... with all my bump mapping, 7cm ground textures, 10m mesh, etc...!

You'll shoot your eye out, kid. Ho Ho Ho! I love that movie. Merry Christmas all!
Dude, my 2 year old machine runs FSX at 50-60 FPS, and I have a screen shot with 209+! I tried to share it, but I can't make it small enough to upload and still see the FPS thing at the top. All my settings are MAXXED! I tweaked the CFG LOD line to 7.5, whatever a 7.5 represents, but bigger is better, cuz it was 4.50000. For those wanting to know how I did it, here you go...

AMD phenom 9850 BE OC'd to 2.9 GHZ
ATI Radeon HD 4870 512 MB tweaked with CCC
8GB DDR2 800 MHz OC'd with CPU @ some 930 MHz and 2.05V
MSI K9A2 Platinum MoBo with OC'd and OV'd NB and chipset
Antec 850W psu
Windows 7 x64
There are a few other sneaky bios tricks, but generally that's all that really matters. Anyone can use it now, just gotta have good* (meaning expensive) hardware to use it to it's fullest. Sure, I still dip down to 15-20 at KLAS, but that is still very useable. FS2004 has its place on my HDD, but nothing beats FSX. Nuthin. :D ;)
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z, NB & FSB @2608 MHz
AMD 8350 @ 5.02 GHz 1.524V (200.6 x 25)
Corsair H100i
16GB GSkill Trident @ 2133 MHz C10
Asus 7870 2 GB 1200core/5500mem
Samsung 250GB SSD
RaidMax 1200W
Cooler Master HAF 932
Windows 7 x64
VRS Superbug/TacPack, Iris A-10A, PMDG 77W, 744 and MD-11
