goodbye FSX

FSX including FSX Steam version.

goodbye FSX

Postby amaru » Wed Dec 23, 2009 12:44 pm

Hi all,

Just to share with you my ideas about FSX. I am a new user of FSX for almost a week. After 3 years on FS9, I thought its time for a change. To me, it was like moving places or work place, lol. I found FSX difficult to cope with. My computer can't handle FSX well and I found installing aircraft and panels extremely complicated and annoying. I changed the settings to the lowest and yet I still get lagging. I deleted FSX and everything with it today. Moving back to FS9 is like the journey back home, although I will wait for the day when I am back on FSX on a better PC! I am now ofcourse, going to be more active on the FS9 section of the forum website.

Happy flying everyone

thats true crash, my mean reasons are 1- I only managed to get one addon working (Lufthansa A320 by project airbus) 2- My pc can't handle FSX even in the lowest settings, Microsoft should be on fire over this, how they create such a big game for only a few computers able to handle them! 3- there is not much addon available

the biggest miss though are the tunnels from terminals to aircraft at the gate, airport vehicles, cars and water reflections! so FS9 is definately worth it over FSX for me

I fully understand the fact that you have to return to FS9 because your computer cannot handle FSX.
But the part about the installation of aircrafts behing difficult is just plainly wrong. It's just exactely the same as in FS9, but with a different folder...

no Daube, in FS9 I installed tonnes of aircraft easily. It got to the point where removing them was getting boring. I downloaded many many aircraft for FSX before I even started a single flight. I only managed to have an A320 lufthansa by project airbus and a very dirty royal jordanian A321. I know how to install aircraft, but for some reason they didn't. mind you, installing B777 panels was a long hassle I never even managed to get over, and yes I followed the endless long instructions. FS9 has many many more freeware addons out there anyway

The only time it's troublesome to install aircraft into FSX.. is when you're trying to get FS9 aircraft to work in FSX...

A native FSX aircraft intalls just like FS9 ..

FS9 has indeed many more freeware addons.
Installing an FS9 aircraft in FSX is just the same has in FS9, as I already explained. The POSKY 777 is just an exception, and it's installation instructions are everything but endless.

I have installed tons of addons in my FS9 hangar back in my FS9 days. I have installed tons of addons in my FSX hangar, and 3/4 of them are from FS9.

I guess you needed just a little bit more informations about the possible problems that can occur when importing FS9 aircrafts into FSX. Those who are not aware and expect everything to be as smooth as in FS9 are usually dissapointed. But those have also forgotten the good old days when FS2002 aircrafts were not showing props or gears in FS9... :)

I had both on my machine. I found FSX to be quite visually pleasing but I, too, wanted the vast variety of airplanes available for FS9. The Stratojet Merlin is my favorite propper and the Coral F-15 is my favorite jet. Don't know if either one is fully converted for FSX. My machine committed hara-kiri around November 1, so I'm out of it as far as FSX goes and I'm not using my back-up Windows machine, anyway. I am 2500 miles from home and using a mac. The horror. The horror...

Best decision of you life  ;) :D

I still miss the great game but if you dont have the PC for it, dont bother.

Move down to fs9. Its such a non stressful life in there.  8-)

Agreed, and I agree with Brett. I would spend hours trying to get a great FS9 aircraft to function fully on FSX because the panel or sounds wouldnt work.

All the great addons seem to be on FS9...and you dont have to change and of the POSKY planes cause there all made for FS9. It would be a hassle trying to download all those great planes onto FSX and always having to fix them....even if it was a small fix.  :P

I dont buy the, "My comp cant handle FSX" excuse. Look, my comp is literally 8 years old, P4, 1 gig of memory, a less than stellar PCI (you read that right, PCI) graphics card, the list goes on. By all means a very outdated machine. However, with tips and tweaks found right here at SimV (Thanks Nick), Not only does FSX run, but looks great too! Sure it lags over large cities, or there is alot of AI... but it does run pretty well otherwise, and my settings are all nearly maxed out! Do I get 30-40fps? Nope, but with certain types of aircraft I can get near 20fps... which for this old machine isnt bad, and is good enough for me at the moment!
My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.

I bought a better computer to try FSX, I still use FS9 95% of the time.  Even though I can now run FSX ok, I prefer the interface of FS9 better.  So many of the changes that were made for FSX, aircraft selection screen, views, added use of VC, I don't care for personally.
