Skipping and Glitching ATC Audio

Postby SUflyer » Sat Dec 19, 2009 5:19 pm

I have been scouring the web for an answer to this one and have only found one post with exactly the same symptoms - there was no solution for that person either... Everything runs perfect in FSX except the ATC voices - they will skip and glitch all the way to the end of their transmission so you get something like this - "Wind, wind, wind, (glitch), (glitch), visibility, vis, vis, sky condi, sky, sky, temp, temp, dewpoint, dewpoint, altim, altim, altim, altim (glitch), (glitch), in use, in use, in use." - as described on this other fellow's post...

Was using the onboard audio, but after purchased a SB X-FI Pro card for my Quad Core AMD 955 PII setup with NVida GTX260 core 216 video on an Asus M4A78T mobo, 8gb RAM running Win 7.... no difference...

Tried various sound settings and video setting as well as restoring the files, updating any drivers (which there was only the sound driver which I downloaded from Creative on install of the card) - also have both patches installed for FSX...

So I'm at a loss with what to do here... Any ideas???

Did you reinstall FSX?

I would suggest you DO NOT reinstall FSX unless you have eliminated the other possibilities first.

Audio for everything other than ATC is crisp and clear through either headsets or through my speakers, which are good... It seems that the files are there, because the audio is choppy as mentioned above, but always corresponds to the visual text message on the ATC console or the scrolling green bar text... Also set the Graphics to minimum and all over the spectrum in between - no change... Also the same with any aircraft...

Another interesting piece to this is I installed FS2004 last night and I have no ATC audio at all! But again, I have all other audio just fine....

Similar, but not identical issues - wondering if there are any codecs that are specific to the ATC I might be missing... Saw that as being an issue on FS2004 on WinXP... No sure what that could do on Win7 or Vista...

Oh - did not try a reinstall...

I don't know about Codecs and such, but way back when  I downloaded something called the "K-lite Codec Pack".

Yep - familiar with K-lite and have used it for years... codecs are used to encode and decode both audio and video files...

Also tried installing the newest version of that and did not solve the issue on either FS...

This might strike you as the stupidest suggestion you've had yet, but sometimes, when I'm out of answers, I've been successful "upgrading out of the problem."  If you aren't afraid of screwing it up, you might refer to the other recent thread on Edit Voice Pack.  Although I doubt that will solve your problems, if it were me, I might just see what happens if you were to install that...Again, like I said, i seriously doubt that will help.
--See if there is some toggle for your sound card that allows external programs to control the channels.
--Have you disabled your MOBO hifi sounds in your BIOS since you upgraded to an X-fi?
--what if you were to get rid of the K-lite Codec pack alltogether?
--What if you tried various settings on your creative card like Gaming mode versus Entertainment mode, or is there an EAX? or some fancy thing in there that does extra processing?
You've probably already tried most of these things, but...that is all I can think of right now.

Okay - interesting idea, but I agree - not sure that will work... as for the other points:

- Not sure if there are setting on the card for external control, will look into that one...
- Yes, disabled MOBO right off the bat
- Uninstalled K-lite, no change and reinstalled a newer version, no change...
- Tried the various modes and EAX settings, no change...

Both FS2004 and FSX were unaffected by those changes...

FOUND IT!!!

It is a Codec issue! K-Lite has a Configuration Utility - I opened it and enabled all the Codecs that were disabled and I now have ATC sound in both FS2004 and FSX...

Thanks for the help...
