Not all SP2s are the same

FSX including FSX Steam version.

Not all SP2s are the same

Postby snippyfsxer » Thu Nov 12, 2009 9:27 pm

This might be of some general interest.  I've been following a thread over on Reality-XP's site concerning them getting their GPS to properly control the HSI needles of the Real Air Duke.  Apparently their are two different versions of SP2 floating around out there, for instance between the downloadable one versus the one included with Acceleration.  I probably don't know what I'm talking about, but this sounds like a big deal to me.  Here is a link

Yes, it is now a well-known fact that SP2 and Acceleration are not the same.
The two main examples that come to my mind:
- in Acceleration, you get features that are not included in SP2, for example the different handling of the jet engine power and some other general FDE stuff (this is more relevant to plane creators)

- people who installed only Acceleration on top of a fresh FSX could not get Simprobe or CumulusX modules to work. Acceleration had to be uninstalled, for installing and uninstalling immediately SP2, and then reinstalling Acceleration. Then it would work, meaning that the SP2 brought some stuff that Acceleration was missing...

I'm sure there are other differences (I'm not talking about the planes/sceneries/missions included in Acceleration of course).

so should people install FSX > SP1 > SP2 > Acceleration? or should they go FSX >SP2 > Acceleration or FSX > Acceleration?

which route is the best?

If I had to reinstall FSX, I would do:
- Update Windows
- Update Windows again
- Make sure all of the DX9 updates are in
- Make sure all of the .NET runtimes are up to date
- Make sure all of the C++ runtimes are up to date
- deactivate Antivirus
- install FSX
- install SP1
- install SP2
- uninstall SP2
- install Acceleration.
In that precise order, with maybe some reboots in the middle, and re-deactivation of the antivirus each time of course.

Acceleration will not install over SP2, it will tell you to uninstall ;)

Daube,

Why do you need to install SP2 when Acceleration comes with SP2?

I am getting ready to install FSX w/Acceleration and SDK on to a new PC, so any clarification that you can provide would be appreciated.

The fact that if you install directly Acceleration on top of a fresh retail FSX, you will not get everything that SP1 and SP2 offers.

Proof is simple: the famous Simprobe+CumulusX modules will not work on FSX+Acceleration.

I found the solution on another forum: I uninstalled Acceleration, installed SP1, installed SP2, uninstalled SP2, reinstalled Acceleration, and suddently Simprobe+CumulisX were working like a charm. And I was not the only one facing this problem.

now what about my collection of planes both freeware and pay? will I have to loose that entire collection (yes I got over 150 different planes in the hanger, most vintage ones I love that were from WW2, or can I just remove acceleration, grab my C-130 disk install SP1 and SP 2 off that (its included by just flight) or is there a specific link I must go to and install the SP 1/2 from?

what does one loose without..Simprobe+CumulusX modules?? and why was it considered unnecessary in accel?
so now i gather that only sp1 is necessary...not sp2?

Simprobe and CumulusX are two freeware modules that bring soaring into FSX.
The newest version of CumulusX doesn't even need Simprobe anymore.
