Starting a flight with the parking brake on?

Postby DeepSpace » Sat Nov 28, 2009 2:36 pm

Is there an entry that can be made to the fsx.cfg file to start the flight with the parking brake on?

Create or load a flight. Once in the aircraft, make any settings you wish to the aircraft's systems and controls, including setting the brake. Save the flight, putting a checkmark next to 'Make this the default flight' before pressing OK to save.

Any flight you create will reflect the settings. It will not effect any previously saved flights.

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm afraid that doesn't work. Any other possibilities?

For now, an old but trusty Microsoft Sidewinder 2. Soon to be replaced, with X52 Pro I suppose.

In FS 2004....even if you set the Parking Brake on, the slightest (unintentional?) touch of the Controller Brake Trigger, etc,
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Thanks, but I'm using FSX, hence this post is here :D :D
Also, I'm making sure I don't unintentionally touch the brake trigger.

BTW, I'm using that "mod" that forces FSX to start with cold & dark cockpit (never mind which aircraft I select in the free flight menu) by placing a file named 'cold & dark.FLT' file in the "flight simulator files" folder. Maybe that's what causing the method offered above to fail?

I believe that the default flight in FSX loads without the parking brake on. You could always apply the parking brake & save the flight. Make it your default flight.

Edit: Sorry. I missed Dave's reply.

Thanks Hagar, but dave3cu already offered that solution and unfortunately it doesn't seem to do anything.

Sorry, I missed that. :-[

I can only assume it's that Cold & Dark cockpit mod that's causing it.

Well what do you know...

I just loaded up MY Copy of FSX...
Select My Airstrip, Cessna 172,  Parking Brake on, ....switched everything off...
Saved the flight as Dave mentioned...
Shut the Sim down.
Restarted it, and low and behold, everything was "off" and the Parking Brake was applied...;)...same as FS 2004...!

Paul...G-BPLF...FS 2004...FSX... 8-)...!

Well Fozzer, I didnt get it to work, probably because I'm using that cold & dark.FLT file.

So, I thought, "heck, an FLT file must be a cfg file or some sort of..". I opened it in notepad, and what do you know, I was right :D. A quick scan of it showed a list of radio state, aircraft position and last but not list, a "control" section. Quickly enough I found a line " ParkingBrake=000.00". Be sure that changing that to "ParkingBrake=100.00" started my flight with parking brakes on :).

Thanks anyway to anyone trying to help :).
